94 Pts Antonio Galloni - Vinous

"The 2006 Fidenzio bursts from the glass with mocha, blackberry jam, graphite, spices and French oak in a surprisingly supple yet muscular style. With time in the glass, the inner perfume emerges and the wine's minerality takes on a greater role, making a wonderful foil to the exuberant fruit. The tannins finish with notable suaveness and finish. Readers will have to be patient, but the 2006 Fidenzio is shaping up to be another winner from San Luigi. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031."

"Fidenzio, a Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend from the Tuscan coast, is one of Italy's most elusive wines. Production is small and distribution is inconsistent, which is why I nearly always have to wait for bottles to appear on retail shelves before I can review the wines." (10/10)

90 Pts Stephen Tanzer - Vinous Media

"(cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot; 14.5% alcohol) Deep purple-ruby. Youthfully reticent nose hints at fresh blackcurrant complicated by dried flowers, mocha and peppery underbrush. Then plump, sweet and suave on the palate, with good concentration and surprising minerality to the black fruit, tar and spicy herb flavors; much fresher in the mouth than on the nose. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins that will require a couple years of additional cellaring. Made in a warm, ripe style but with plenty of flavor impact, this showy wine will have many admirers. I would have scored it higher if it showed a little more nuance and refinement." (10/10)

"Cabernet and Merlot grapes are hand-picked the first week of October and fermented into open wooden vats with ambient yeasts. The wine ages in French oak tonneaux for 18 months prior to bottling and commercial release." -Importer

"San Luigi Toscana Igt 'Fidenzio' is unarguably one the finest Cabernet Sauvignon produced in Italy today, a serious contender for equally acclaimed Bordeaux blends such as Sassicaia and Ornellaia. What makes San Luigi 'Fidenzio' stand out in the over-crowded context of Super Tuscan wines? Probably a fortunate and rare combination of great terroir and rare expertise in the vineyard and cellar management. San Luigi is husband & wife winery run by Annamaria Toni and Franco Tolomei, who started bottling their own wine in 1995 after selling for years the estate-grown grapes to...Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, no less!"

"Take the sea-facing steep Salivoli hill (a unique terroir composed of volcanic chalk and alluvial gravels), in the coastal region of southern Tuscany, take 6.000 vines x Ha enjoying the first sun of the day, sheltered by the Appennines from the cold winds blowing from the north. Last but not least take the passion and the expertise of agronomist Dott. Alberto Antonini: the picture is now quite comprehensive." -Importer
