94 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The bottled 2005 Beau Sejour Becot confirms that this is the finest effort from this estate in the thirty years I have been covering Bordeaux. A classic blend of 70% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, it is an intense, full-bodied St.-Emilion revealing notes of espresso roast, chocolate, blackberries, licorice, and truffles. With sweet but noticeable tannins, good acidity, and a powerful, long finish, this textbook St.-Emilion cuts a swath between the modern school of winemaking and the traditionalists. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030+" (04/08)

93 Pts Wine Enthusiast

"Barrel sample. Very ripe, very soft at first taste, but there's a good punch of tannins and a dense, intense palate. This has the ripeness of some New World wines. -RV" (06/06)

92 Pts Stephen Tanzer - Vinous Media

"Good ruby-red. Very ripe but lively aromas of kirsch, licorice, bitter chocolate, nuts and violet. Dense and sweet but vibrant, with a medicinal reserve and terrific grip to the superripe fruit and bitter chocolate flavors. Wonderfully rich, pliant wine with late-arriving tannins and a terrific spine for a slow evolution in bottle. Much more tightly wound today than the Becot family's La Gomerie, but there's plenty of fat fruit lurking." (06/08)

92 Pts Wine Spectator

"Offers aromas of blackberry, coffee and tar, with a full body, silky tannins and a blackberry, mineral and light vanilla aftertaste. Balanced, refined and pretty. Best after 2014. 5,830 cases made. -JS" (03/08)

90 Pts Wine & Spirits

"Saturated and rich, this wine is black in color and all mocha in aroma. The bold strawberry flavors are larger than life, the tannins integrated. It's all about power, with no way to tell what's underneath. Cellar it, and you'll either get a delicious, rich red, or something more distinctive as the power and the oak begin to fade." (10/08)

"100% new oak. Lovely smelly fruit in the winery. Very dark crimson. Intense, graphite nose with a hint of liquorice and even, dare I say it, Argentine Malbec! Dramatic, ambitious wine. Drink from 2014 to 2024. -JR" (12/12) - 17.5 out of 20 Points, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages.

"Chateau Beausejour is situated on the left bank of Dordogne River, at the top of the Montagne Saint Emilion hillside, 2.5 miles (4 km) from Saint Emilion. This estate is the perfect example of the appellation, both due to the imposing appearence prestigious look of the buildings (castle and chai) and to the outstanding location of the vineyard, stretching from outside Saint Martin's church (12th- century Romanesque church, in the heart of Montagne village) to the five mills of Calon (2 of which have been perfectly restored and... are in working order)."

"The various vineyard plots are named Paradis, Clos de l'Eglise, Clos 1901, Moulin, Caillou... and all of them have the characteristic of being located on the mountaintop of Montagne. They are composed of a 8 to 20 inches (20 to 50 cm) deep chalky-clay soil, laid on a fissured limestone base (the subsoil is full of quarries from which stones were used to build Bordeaux and Libourne in the previous centuries) wich redistributes water (drop by drop!) to the vines during the summer."

"The plots are situated on a gentle slope, south and southwest facing, allowing natural drainage and a sunshine which are very suitable for the vines. The whole area is well ventilated (the numerous windmills attest to this...), ensuring to the vine a good, healthy environment, greatly reducing blight and allowing the grapes to be harvested at optimal ripeness."

"The age of the vines (some plots were planted in 1901, 1902, 1934 and 1946!) and this outstanding chalky-clay soil produce a distinctive wine, ideal for ageing, magnificently produced following the guidelines laid down by Stephane Derenoncourt since the vintage 2005. Chateau Beausejour, created from this outstanding terroir, has now become one of the greatest Bordeaux wines." - Winery
