Please note, tonight's wine is available on presale and is expected to arrive February 14th.
Please note, orders are processed on a first come basis. If you leave the wine in your cart for even a few minutes it might have already sold out as our stock quantity is removed when you submit the order in final, not when you add it to your cart!

"This is very seductive, offering raspberry, black currant, floral, tobacco and briary notes. Has a solid spine and fine balance, with plenty of grip on the long finish. Best from 2016 through 2033. 276 cases made. -BS" (02/13)
"Intense pomegranate color with hints of ruby. Notes of woody fruits, violet and rose; solid and intense on the palate with velvety tannins. 100% Nebbiolo from the Prapo vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba. The vineyard is located at 350 meters above sea level with a south-east exposure. The vines are trained using guyot method at a density of 400 plants per hectare in a mixture of loam and chalk soils. The grapes are hand harvested in the second half of October and vinified and cement tanks for 15-20 days and racked several times before being moved into Slavonian oak barrels of 20-40 Hl for 3years." - Importer
"Schiavenza is located in Serralunga D'Alba in the heart of Piedmont's Lanhge district- celebrated for its great Barolo vineyards. The estate was founded in 1956 by the brothers Vittorio and Ugo Alessandria. Today it is run by the second generation Alessandria sisters, Enrica and Maura and Maura's husband Luciano Pira. The estate and surrounding area were formerly part of the Opera Pia Barolo (a castle that is kind of like the Hospice du Beaune - part educational institution and part hospital) whose vineyards were traditionally worked by sharecroppers. The local dialect for sharecropper is "schiavenza" which should give one a clue as to the style here; this is no modern "barrique" aged Barolo estate. The Barolos here are aged in the traditional large Slovenian barrels called botti, they use only naturally occurring yeasts and ferment the wines in cement cisterns. Their holdings include approximately 8 hectares split between Serralunga and Monforte D'Alba and include the heralded crus Prapo, Bricco Cerreta, and Broglio."
"In the vineyard, Sciavenza does not use pesticides or herbicides; harvest is manual and is conducted according to the phases of the moon. The only piece missing from all of this information is just how good the wines are. The quality here is shockingly good. Schiavenza's wines are elegant, pure expressions of Nebbiolo that would embarrass many a more famous address. This is a direct import and we have negotiated with the estate to bring our customers the lowest possible prices. We are thrilled to be able to re-introduce these great wines to the market- at lower prices than ever." - Importer
