Description:

This 6-pack includes 1 bottle of 2005 - Vina Olabarri Gran Reserva, 1 bottle of the 2010 - Ampeleia Kepos, 1 bottle of the 2011 - Thibert Les Cras Pouilly Fuisse, 1 bottle of the 2010 - San Roman Toro, 1 bottle of the 2011 - Sette Ponti Oreno, and 1 bottle of the 2005 - Haras De Pirque Elegance Cabernet Sauvignon.

2005 - Vina Olabarri Gran Reserva:
"This is almost exactly like the winery's excellent 2004 Gran Reserva, proof that Olabarri knows how to make this style of Tempranillo. This is smooth and concentrated, with a deep color and ripe plum, blackberry and tobacco aromas. Flavors of mossy berry, fresh prune, chocolate and vanilla come with light herbal accents. This is elegant, with aging potential. Drink now-2020. -M.S." (06/13) - 92 Pts Wine Enthusiast

"Licorice, espresso, smoke and mineral notes frame a core of plum and leafy flavors in this savory red. Compact yet dense, with light, firm tannins and a slightly chewy finish. Drink now through 2020. 3,750 cases made. -TM" (10/13) - 91 Pts Wine Spectator

Wine:
"Ruby with brick-red glints, proper of a careful ageing. Incisive and penetrating complex aromas. It's big and balanced in the mouth, velvety and frank in the palate, showing its great evolution in the bottle. Tempranillo 80% and 20% Mazuelo and Graciano." - Winery

2010 - Ampeleia Kepos :
"The 2010 Kepos is striking in this vintage. Dark cherries, plums, spices, licorice and tobacco are some of the notes that jump from the glass. Sweet herbal nuances appear later, adding complexity and aromatic lift. This is a hugely intriguing wine from Ampeleia that constantly changes in the glass. The Kepos will be fascinating to follow over the next handful of years as it starts to settle down in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020."

"I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted from Ampeleia this year. Every time I went back to the wines, I found a new shade of dimension. A gradual conversion to biodynamic farming and an increased use of cement vats are stripping these wines to the bare essentials, and what comes through more often than not these days is pure class." (06/12) - 92 Pts Antonio Galloni - Vinous

"A lovely strawberry and raspberry nose. Aromatic and perfumed. I like the acidity; turns savory. Delicious and clearly outstanding. A Maremma red from Foradori's Elisabetta Foradori from Trentino." (04/13) - 91 Pts James Suckling - JamesSuckling.com

"Full, bright ruby-red. Redcurrant and pomegranate on the nose, with spicy and herb notes emerging with air. More wound-up and less fruity than the Unilitro bottling, hinting at sweet red berry and spice flavors with a strong undercurrent of underbrush. Gains flesh with air but this will need a couple years in the cellar to open fully. Finishes firm and very persistent. One of the better Kepos vintages to date." (09/12) - 90+ Pts Ian Dagata - International Wine Cellar

Wine:
"Five Mediterranean grape varieties from the vineyards of Ampeleia di Sotto blended in a single wine. These are the winery's vineyards closest to the sea, where the Mediterranean scrub dominates the landscape permeating the air with its fragrances: this is Kepos, the authentic and natural interpretation of Ampeleia's warmest and most radiant nature."- Winery This wine was also scored 89 Points by the Wine Spectator.

2011 - Thibert Les Cras Pouilly Fuisse:
"The outstanding 2011 Pouilly-Fuisse Les Cras comes from three small plots that Christophe lamented possess exceptionally hard limestone soils. But the effort is worth it. The Les Cras has a very pretty, understated bouquet that opens beautifully in the glass with delicate lemon curd and apple-blossom scents. The palate shows entrancing balance, a silky smooth texture, effortless harmony. The wine builds in the mouth toward a succinct, lightly honeyed finish that will leave you wondering why you wasted all your money on Corton-Charlemagne all those years. Sell that and load up on this." (08/13) - 95 Pts Neal Martin - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

2010 - San Roman Toro:
"Deep ruby. Primary aromas of blackberry, blueberry and floral oils, plus hints of vanilla and star anise. Dense, ripe and chewy, with sweet, perfumed dark berry and floral pastille flavors gaining energy with air. Energetic, spicy and very long on the finish, with firm, well-integrated tannins adding shape and grip." (10/13) - 92 Pts Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar

Estate:
"Bodegas y Vinedos Maurodos owns 55 hectares in the villages of Villaester and San Roman de Hornija, planted mainly with Tinta de Toro, which come from the same family as Tempranillo, but adapted to Toro over centuries. This adaptation has lead to smaller berries which in turn lead to deeper color and more intense aroma and structure than typical of Tempranillo from other regions. It is possible to separate two different soil areas, in Villaester the soil has sand and clay with some gravels, while in San Roman the soil is more stony."

"Grapes mature sooner in San Roman than Villaester. The vines range in age up to 70 years old and are pruned to grow as bushes rather than on vertical trellises. On the vines the grapes hang low under a rounded canopy of leaves that protects them from scorching summer temperatures. This type of pruning concentrates the flavor of the grapes as it naturally limits the yield of grapes for each vine." -Winery

2011 - Sette Ponti Oreno:
"There is a purity of fruit in this young Tuscan red, with flowers, citrus fruit and currants. Full body with firm, silky tannins that are ultra-fine and wonderfully polished. The structure builds to a racy finish. This is a Bordeaux blend that is all in harmony. Give it time: the tannins and fruit will melt together. Try in 2016." (11/13) - 96 Pts James Suckling - JamesSuckling.com

"Though rich, this red is also vibrant, balanced and full of generous black cherry and blackberry flavors. Hints of spice and smoke add accents to the long, satisfying finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Best from 2015 through 2025. 6,500 cases made. -BS" (10/13) - 92 Pts Wine Spectator

Wine:
"Spicy aromas of black fruit and touches of chocolate dominate the nose and palate. The wine is full-bodied, with supple tannins." - Importer

2005 - Haras De Pirque Elegance Cabernet Sauvignon:
"This grows at a north-facing amphitheater above the Maipo River, where cold air follows the river's path down from the Andes. It's a seductive cabernet with cool-climate aromas-herbal notes, red fruits and a bit of menthol as background. The texture rolls across the palate, irresistibly smooth. A great Maipo cabernet." (06/09) - 93 Pts Wine & Spirits

Producer:
"In 1991, after a highly successful business career in Chile's private sector, entrepreneur Eduardo Matte acquired an estate that he would later name Haras de Pirque, in the southwestern part of Pirque, a prestigious winegrowing area situated in the Maipo Valley. Eduardo Matte's objectives included launching a major winery project, and expanding and improving the existing thoroughbred farm."

"In accordance with the Appellation of Origin Law, Vina Haras de Pirque is located in the winegrowing region of the Maipo Valley, Pirque subregion, both classified internationally as producers of fine wines. Due to its unique geographical and climatic conditions, the Upper Maipo area, where Pirque is situated, is renowned for its production of Chile's best red wines, especially Cabernet Sauvignon." - Importer
