91 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The unfiltered 2009 Salia is a blend of 49% Syrah, 30% Garnacha Tintorera and 21% Garnacha Tinta that was aged nearly a year in a combination of French and American oak. This outstanding, full-bodied, fleshy red offers up notes of kirsch, black cherries, black currants and licorice intermixed with loamy soil undertones. It is an impressive, ridiculously low priced beauty that should drink well for 3-4 years."

"These are two less expensive offerings from the famous journalist and wine producer, Victor de la Serna. I and my two colleagues, Jay Miller and Neal Martin, have previously written about Sandoval's more expensive wines. These two value-priced efforts are both impressive." (10/12)

90 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"(49% syrah, 30% garnacha tintorera and 21% garnacha, aged for 11 months in small, used French and American oak barrels and bottled without fining or filtration): Bright violet color. Pungently aromatic, with powerful aromas of cassis, smoky minerals, cracked pepper, violet and olive. Deeply pitched dark berry flavors show a blend of power and vivacity and become sweeter with air. Spicy notes build on the finish, which is chewy, gently tannic and long. Definitely give this wine some air." (09/12)

Description:

Winery:
"Finca Sandoval is a cherished, personal project started in 1998 by renowned journalist and wine writer Victor de la Serna, who teamed up with winemaker Rafael Orozco. The property is sited within its own estate vineyards which are planted with Syrah and Touriga Nacional. These vineyards, located in the heart of Manchuela, have also seen the slow incorporation of some of the best native varieties in the region (Bobal, Monastrell, Garnacha, Garnacha Tintorera) in a bid to fufill a dream formed over 40 years of deep knowledge and understanding of the soils of the estate." - Winery
