Description:

This 3-pack includes 1 bottle of 2008 - Zanzibar Sandra Red, 1 bottle of 2009 - Moris Farms Avvoltore, and 1 bottle of 2009 - Quinta De Pancas Reserva Lisboa.

2008 - Zanzibar Sandra Red
"A distinctive minerality, reminiscent of warm rain on flagstones, runs through the flavor profile of this elegant, refined and powerful red. Dark berry and licorice notes also come through as the finish persists. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2016. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 900 cases made. -H.S." (08/11) - 92 Pts Wine Spectator

Wine:
"A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah from Columbia valley vineyards, grapes are hand harvested and undergo small batch whole berry fermentation and extended maceration to ensure the development of remarkable and supple structure and body. Malolactic fermentation is completed in 100% new French oak barrels, where the wine continues to age and mature for 12 months until it is bottled. It will then be cellared for the next 12 months before it is released." - Winery

Winery:
"ZanZibar Cellars is a small boutique winery dedicated to creating unique wines that reflect not only the passion and the vision of its founders but also the terroir of the Columbia and Yakima valleys. We believe that which separates good wine from great wine is the obsession with details and the strive for perfection. From our extremely low yields (1.5 - 2 tons/acre), to our small batch fermentation and gentle handling process, our cradling efforts are reflected in the quality of our handcrafted wines."

"We work tirelessly to create wines that are balanced yet exuberant, elegant yet powerful and unpredictably alive. Above all, our focus on high quality guides us in all of our decision making. We work closely with our vineyards to manage yields and closely monitor watering protocols to ensure the highest quality fruit. As Partners and friends, Ziad Keirouz and Glen Boyd collaborate on all aspects of the business. For over 20 years in the creative fields of Science and Engineering, both were fueled by the passion to succeed and create something unique. Today, the same drive and passion guide our work at ZanZibar Cellars. From selecting the best grapes and the best French oak barrels to making the wine and designing the packaging, everything is approached with the same level of precision and dedication to quality." -Winery

2009 - Moris Farms Avvoltore:
"Opaque inky-purple. Black cherry, plum, cocoa and aromatic herbs on the knockout nose. Savory, suave and dense, offering a terrific combination of juiciness and depth to its minty black fruit and tobacco flavors. Bright acids and firm, sweet tannins give this lush, seamless blend a solid underlying structure. The smooth, long finish features palate-saturating flavor. Very well done: even though this is in the typically creamy, riper style of the warm Tuscan Coast, Avvoltore almost always manages enough lift and gracefulness to avoid coming off as yet another high-pH, creamy monster. Aged 12 months in new and once-used small French oak barrels." (09/12) - 94 Pts Ian Dagata - International Wine Cellar

"The 2009 Avvoltore is one of the most refined, elegant wines I have ever tasted from Morisfarms. Sweet, silky tannins frame a core of super-expressive black fruit. The wine flows across the palate gracefully yet there is plenty of underlying structure. This is a fabulous, sleek Avvoltore that is sure to find many fans. Stylistically the 2009 is quite ripe and radiant, but it doesn't have the heft or weight of a truly opulent year. The wine can be enjoyed now or cellared for at least a handful of years. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024." (08/11) - 93+ Pts Antonio Galloni - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Wine:
"Made from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah from the Poggio all'Avvoltore vineyard in the Massa Marittima. The soil is clay, rich in fossils, slightly acidic. The harvest took place during the second and fourth weeks of September, dependant on the various varietals. Fermentation took place in termperature-controlled cement tanks with the cap pumped over twice a day during a period of maceration lasting 25 days. Malolactic Fermentation took place in 225 liter barrels (80% new). The wine was racked once during this period. Additional barrel aging for 12 months followed by six months in the bottle before release." - Importer

Morisfarms:
"Morisfarms is the Tuscan estate of the Parentini family, which comprises an impressive 420 hectares under vine, with the vast majority of vineyards lying within the Morellino di Scanscano subzone of the rugged Maremma region in southwestern Tuscany. Morellino, which is often known as "Baby Brunello" is one of the great, undiscovered wine-producing regions of Tuscany. The wines of Morellino stylistically represent a hypothetical blend between the generally medium-bodied, red fruity, spicy and tangy wines of Chianti and the more plummy and serious wines of Brunello. Perversely, Morellino di Scansano’s relatively low profile on the international wine market has allowed it to avoid the pitfalls of over-extraction and excessive use of new oak barrels that has come to plague many of the formerly superb estates in Brunello in the last decade, and it is no longer a rare occurrence when a Morellino bottling from a top producer such as Morisfarms outperforms a bevy of dried out Brunellos at a comparative tasting."

"There are two distinct bottlings of Morellino from Morisfarms, a "normale" made in a more fruit-forward style that emphasizes both the perfumed fruit tones of top Sangiovese and the lovely soil complexity of the region. It is made from a blend of ninety percent Sangiovese, mixed in with five percent each of Cabernet Sauvignon and, to add a note of exotica, Syrah. The Riserva Morellino is also made from ninety percent Sangiovese, culled from the oldest and best-situated vines of the estate, and blended with a mix of Cabernet and other grape varieties, depending on the profile of the vintage. It is only produced in outstanding years. Morisfarms also produces their own version of a Super Tuscan, their IGT "Avvoltorre," which is made up of seventy-five percent Sangiovese, twenty percent Cabernet Sauvignon and five percent Syrah." - Importer

2009 - Quinta De Pancas Reserva Lisboa:
"This is beautiful, with smooth, polished tannins and a spice note from the wood aging. It is layered with black plum, chocolate and licorice flavors, along with structure. The fruit is rich and likely to come forward in the next 3-4 years. CELLAR SELECTION. -R.V." (10/12) - 93 Pts Wine Enthusiast

Wine:
"Made from Merlot, Touriga Nacional, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep opaque red colour, deep complex aroma with mineral notes, spices and red berries, great body and concentration, marked acidity and a lengthy finish." - Winery

Winery:
"Quinta de Pancas was founded in 1495 by the Guimaraes family and remained under their ownership up until 2006, when Companhia das Quintas acquired it. Located in Estremadura, "Alto Concelho de Alenquer" next to the Pancas Village, the property is noticeable for the architecture of the manor house, especially the entrance arch and its panels with tiles from the 16th Century. Quinta de Pancas has a tradition and history of producing quality wines."

"The microclimate of the hillsides towards the east is ideal for the ripening of noble great varieties, including Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon. Sunny days and fresh nights result in very generous wines, of aromatic flavours and balanced structures. It has approximately 50-ha of vineyards, where white and red wines of national and international notoriety and recognition are produced." - Winery
