Description:

This 2-pack includes 1 bottle of 2009 - Rockledge Cabernet Sauvignon The Rocks, and 1 bottle of 2009 - Mcprice Myers Altas Vinas Alta Mesa Vineyard Santa Barbara County.

2009 - Rockledge Cabernet Sauvignon The Rocks:
"Good deep red-ruby. Cool aromas of blueberry, crushed rock, licorice and violet. Broad, sweet and fine-grained, with a pliant texture and good depth to the flavors of dark berries, chocolate and mint. The tannins are tongue-dusting but sweet and the finish nicely persistent. It's hard to find suave California cabernet at this price." (10/11) - 90 Pts Stephen Tanzer - International Wine Cellar

Winery:
"Rockledge Vineyards is located 600 feet above the Napa Valley floor in the eastern part of the St Helena AVA. The vineyard's slope is up to 25% and has a southwest exposure. Peter and Linda Snowden founded Rockledge in 1998, and hired winemaker Mike Hirby in 2003."

"Mr. Hirby works with vineyard manager Steve DeLoera and consultant Doug Hill. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines are comprised of a variety of different clones grafted onto carefully selected rootstocks based on the soil and the desired effect."

""The Rocks" is made from the rocky soils of the Snowdens' estate vineyard. It was aged in 90% new French oak barrels for 18 months." - Cal Wineries

2009 - Mcprice Myers Altas Vinas Alta Mesa Vineyard Santa Barbara County:
"The 2009 Atlas Vinas is an exciting wine laced with dark fruit, scorched earth, licorice, leather and tobacco. The aromas and flavors come through with tons of intensity and pedigree in this full-bodied, brooding wine. There is considerable depth and richness in the glass, but readers will have to be a bit patient here. Atlas Vinas is 42% Grenache, 29% Mourvedre and 29% Syrah. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017." (08/11) - 93 Pts Antonio Galloni - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"A blend of 42% Grenache, 29% Mourvedre, and 29% Syrah, the 2009 McPrice Myers Altas Vinas Alta Mesa Vineyard displays a ripe, rich profile with baked cherry, plum, earth, meat, and absurd levels of crushed rock and earthy minerality that shows more on the palate than the nose. Full-bodied and firm and structured on the palate, with notable ripe tannin, integrated acidity, and a classically styled finish, this needs a handful of years in the cellar to fully flesh out, and should have upwards of 10-12 years of longevity." (12/11) - 92+ Pts Jeb Dunnuck - The Rhone Report

"Lots of juicy fruit with meat and berry character. A little hot and alcoholic. But outstanding wine. Full and juicy. Made from 42% Grenache, 29% Mourvedre, and 29% Syrah." (10/11) - 90 Pts James Suckling - JamesSuckling.com

Altas Vinas:
"Alta Mesa Vineyard sits 3,200 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest elevation vineyards in the US. Huge temperature differentials produce fruit that is fermented into this vibrant wine." - Winery

Winemaker:
McPrice "Mac" Myers
"Mac got into food and wine during his early twenties via his friends and coworkers at Trader Joe's in Southern California. He soon began taking trips up to the Central Coast to just to taste, but quickly found himself volunteering his time on his days off to help out at a number of wineries. After learning the process for a few years and spending more and more time on the Central Coast, Mac was ready to start making wine for himself." - Winery

This was also scored 89 points in the Wine Spectator.
