"The estate's 2008 Corton-Rognets is another delicate, elegant wine from Taupenot-Merme. Here, too, the aromatics take center stage at first glance, while it is the wineâs length and overall balance that hold all of the elements beautifully in place. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028."

"Taupenot-Merme farms 13 hectares across 19 appellations. The vineyards have been farmed organically since 2001. The wines are made in a style that seeks textural richness. The fruit is 100% destemmed and undergoes a cold soak of 7-9 days, prior to fermentation. The wines are racked into steel to allow for a natural decantation and then moved into oak, where they spend 12-15 months on the fine lees. New oak tops out at 40% for the Grand Crus. The 2009 harvest started on September 11. Yields were high relative to past years, but the estate had a lot of millerandage (shot berries). Romain Taupenot describes his 2009s as having a high level of malic acid, which delayed malos by the standards of this estate." (05/11)

"A hint of animale can be found on the distinctly earthy and herbal red berry fruit aromas that marry into textured medium weight flavors that are full and rich but not especially muscular or concentrated, all wrapped in a punchy, long and mouth coating finish. "At nearly 30 acres, Domaine Taupenot-Merme is a rather large estate by Burgundian standards. The roots of the family estate go back to the 1760, and today's superb vineyard holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-St. Denis and Chambolle Musigny were united by the marriage of two winemaking families three generations ago. Now in the hands of 41 year-old Romain Taupenot and his sister Virginie, 36, they are the 7th generation to continue the family tradition. Parcels include significant pieces of both Charmes Chambertin & Mazoyeres Chambertin and a great line-up of 1er crus including Combe d'Orveau in Chambolle-Musigny. All farming is organic and the wine style here is one of elegance and purity, with a base of finesse rather than power. The wines are superb with food, and are excellent values." -Importer
