2009 Sierra Salinas Puerto Salinas
"There are 5,000 cases of this remarkable value, another stunning example of the astonishing palate of Eric Solomon and his ability to ferret out exceptional wines at such ridiculously low prices that most consumers will never guess how good they are based on the price alone. Composed of 66% Monastrell, 19% Garnacha and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for one year in both new and 2-year-old French oak, it displays an inky/purple color along with notes of road tar, melted asphalt, blackberry liqueur, camphor, graphite and forest floor. The wine is complex, full-bodied, rich and intense with terrific purity and wonderful overall balance. It is one more example of a wine that completely over-delivers. Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years." - (06/12) - 92 Pts Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate
"The Castano family, continuing their crusade and advocacy for the Monastrell grape, developed this project in the D.O. Alicante in 2003. They acquired and revamped some old vineyards located in the foothills of the Sierra Salinas mountains - between the provinces of Murcia and Alicante - at about 650 meters above sea level The winery is a state of the art, three level gravity flow facility located right in the middle of the vineyards with an underground barrel aging room."
"The estate is 92 hectares of land where almond and olive trees share the land with the vineyards. At present, there are 52 hectares of old bush vines of Monastrell, the indigenous Mediterranean variety, planted around 1970. The rest is devoted to vineyards are planted with other varieties in irrigated trellis, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha Tintorera and Syrah." - Importer
2008 Elias Mora Toro Crianza
"This firm, solid red offers expressive flavors of mineral, smoke, blackberry, herb and licorice. A big wine that remains balanced. Best from 2012 through 2020. 3,300 cases made. -TM" (09/11) - 90 Pts Wine Spectator
"The 2008 Elias Mora Crianza spent 12 months in seasoned French and American oak. It offers up aromas of balsamic, balsam wood, blackberry, tar, and licorice. Dense, rich, savory, and nicely proportioned, this lengthy effort will continue to fill out for another 1-2 years and provide enjoyment through 2020."
"The following three wines from Bodegas y Vinedos Elias Mora, located in the DO of Toro, were made from 100% Tinta de Toro, the local clone of Tempranillo, and bottled without filtration." (06/11) - 90 Pts Jay Miller - The Wine Advocate
"Vivid purple. Aromas of cherry pit, redcurrant, licorice and dark chocolate. Supple and dense but fresh, offering spicy red and black fruits, fresh herbs and mounting spiciness. This youthful, tightly wound wine finishes with firm, ripe tannins and very good persistence." (10/11) - 90 Pts Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar
"The grapes come from the vineyards having belonged to Elias Mora, which he cultivated for 40 years and for whom the wine is named. The vines are a Tempranillo clone that yields small berries and is planted on small slopes with rocky soil."
"Harvested at the end of September. The wine was fermented in small stainless steel tanks for 22 days. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged for 12 months in second-fill American and French oak barrels. Clarification with egg whites was done before bottling. The wine was bottled without filtration or stabilization." -Importer
"This Bodega, situated in the famous village of San Roman de Hornija, was started by the two Victorias; Victoria Benavides and Victoria Pariente. The vision for the project included production of both white wines from Rueda and red wines from Toro. Recently, the Victorias have separated their winemaking facilities, with the Bodega in Toro renamed Bodegas Elias Mora, to better concentrate on production of each type of wine to its highest possible quality."
"The winery owns 8 Ha. (17.6 acres) of vineyards, including the 'Los Pajaros vineyard' and 'La Veleta' as well as a few small plots owned by farmers, also planted in San Roman de la Hornija. The vines are planted at 2,600 feet above sea level. The soil comprises clay and limestone with big stones on the surface."
"The winery is named after Elias Mora, the man who owned some of the core vineyards for the production of the Victoria's red wine. A few years ago, he sold his vineyard to Dos Victorias on the condition that he tend the vineyard until his death."-Importer
