Description:

This 2-pack contains 1 bottle of 2007 Pietranera Brunello di Montalcino, and 1 bottle of 2008 Seghesio Barolo.

2007 Pietranera Brunello Di Montalcino
"Opens with dark concentration and ripe berry fruit with layers of plum, blackberry, dark chocolate, high- quality pipe tobacco, cherry liqueur, cola and underbrush. It offers a wonderful 360-degree portrait of Sangiovese Grosso. Tight structure, integration and loads of fruity intensity. Beautiful. Drink after 2018. -M.L." (05/12) - 94 Pts Wine Enthusiast

"Distinctive iron, balsamic and tobacco notes accent the core of cherry in this intense red, which is firmly structured, with moderate acidity. The finish evokes underbrush and tea. Best from 2014 through 2023. 7,500 cases made. -BS" (10/12) - 91 Pts Wine Spectator

"A wine that is slightly jammy, but shows flower and light herb character too. Full body, chewy tannins and a long finish. Better in 2014." (01/12) - 90 Pts James Suckling - JamesSuckling.com

VITICULTURE & VINIFICATION:
"The vineyards are in the south-east side of Montalcino. The fruit is harvested the first half of October. Grapes are picked from the bunch and softly squeezed; the maceration takes place in stainless steel vats for a period of 25 days with repeated wine-pressings and delestages. During this phase the alcoholic fermentation is completed and controlled at a temperature of 28-30 degrees Celsius."

"After the fermentation method has been completed, the wine spends 24-30 months in Slavonian oak barrels of 50 hectolitres. It is then aged for another 6 months in stainless steel vats, and at least 12 months in the bottles before being put on the market, at the beginning of the fifth year after the harvest. Intense ruby-red, with a tendency to garnet-red with the ageing. On the nose, this is round, intense well-balanced, with a long finish. On the palate, this is complex, elegant, full-bodied, velvety. Red meat and game, matured cheeses and complex dishes are great pairings for this wine. Open 1-2 hours before being served." -Winery

This was also rated 88 points by the Wine Advocate and the International Wine Cellar.

2008 Seghesio Barolo:
"The 2008 Barolo is impressive in this vintage. It bursts from the glass with tons of richness and concentration for the year. Dark red fruit, flowers and licorice wrap around the insistent, powerful finish. The fleshy, radiant finish is unusual for the year. This is one of the best Baroli readers will find for the money. I loved it. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028." (04/12) - 92 Pts Antonio Galloni - The Wine Advocate

"Rich, sporting cherry, tar, tobacco and underbrush flavors, this muscular red is balanced toward the tannins. The lasting impression is sweet fruit, but this will take time to grow legs. Best from 2016 through 2035. -BS" - 91 Pts Wine Spectator

Wine:
"The wine is a intense garnet red. On the nose there are intense, complex, sweet spices, violets, and balsamic notes. On the palate there is good acidity with well integrated tannins."

"The wine is 100% Nebbiolo. Fermentation and maceration with the skins for 5-6 days in rotary fermentors with temperature control (28-34 gradi C). The wine matures with the skins for two years in large oak casks. Finishing in the bottle for 6 months." - Importer
