The second email will confirm that we have enough wine to fill your order. 92-94+ Pts Roy Hersh - For the Love of Port

"Cask sample. Gawky just six weeks earlier, this 2nd bottle has really come together. Floral fragrances, spicy scents along with blueberry and boysenberry jam, dark chocolate and high toned spirit showing which integrated a couple of days in. By day four this had put on significant weight and was a classy young VP with a sexy, silky texture, black fruited flavors and intensity on the mid-palate. Harmonious once past the powerful and puckering tannins, this VP continued to improve each day, especially the tsunami of a finish which enveloped the palate. Although enjoyable now, it will cellar impeccably for several decades. This brilliant Gould Campbell is reminiscent of the fine 1997 version, at the very same stage." (06/09)

92 Pts Wine Spectator

"Exhibits very attractive aromas of blueberry and citrus peel. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with ultrafine tannins and a long, silky finish. Elegant and refined. Best after 2018. 1,500 cases made." - JS (05/10)

91 Pts Jay Miller - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2007 Gould Campbell Vintage Port reveals a saturated purple color and a brooding bouquet of violets, Asian spices, earth notes, and compote of black fruits. Elegant and savory in the mouth, this is a stylish Port that will evolve for a decade and offer prime drinking from 2017 to 2030." (02/10)

90 Pts Stephen Tanzer - Vinous Media

"Good deep ruby. Superripe aromas of black cherry, licorice, pepper and nutty oak. Thoroughly ripe and slightly high-toned but a bit clenched today, and not yet expansive in the middle palate or on the firm back end. This will need time to express itself." (01/10)

Description:

"Scented, fine boned, rather a pretty wine. Not desperately intense but very nicely balanced with a dry, peppery finish and fine tannins not unlike sandpaper. Drink 2017 to 2030. (JR)" 17 out of 20 points, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages (05/09)

"The grapes for Gould Campbell Ports are drawn from vineyards in the Alto Douro area, where the yields are very low (about one pipe - 550 litres - per 1,000 vines) but the wines have immense complexity and depth. The winery is situated at Pinhao, where a proportion of the wines are made in modern temperature controlled fermentation tanks. However, a significant proportion of Gould Campbell Ports are still made in small quintas in the hills around Pinhao, using the ancient method of treading the grapes by foot in stone tanks called lagares." - Winery

Estate:
"Gould Campbell was founded in 1797 when Garret Gould, prompted by the political strife wracking his native Ireland, sailed to the hospitable shores of Portugal where he established the firm of Messrs. Gould Brothers & Co., operating from both Lisbon and Oporto."

"The firm survived the trials of the Peninsula War which followed a few years later, when the Anglo-Portuguese army of the Duke of Wellington expelled the French invaders, and soon became very successful bringing into partnership the prestigious Merchants and Bankers Messrs. James Campbell & Co. Gould Campbell came to establish a reputation for the excellent quality of their Ports and their Vintage Ports in particular." - Winery
