"The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino bursts onto the palate with waves of dark red fruit and a soft, voluptuous texture that is truly beautiful. This is a decidedly forward, juicy wine built on a solid core of fruit, but all of the elements work together beautifully. This is one of the better choices among the (relatively) early-drinking wines for the vintage. As good as this is now, the fruit holds more than enough vibrancy to suggest the wine has a bright future ahead of it. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024." (05/11)

"Brunello Fossacolle opens with a darkly concentrated color and aromas of tobacco, spice, chocolate and meaty, pulpy black fruit. The wine presents a bigger, inky style and shows good depth and density on the palate thanks to its extracted consistency, creaminess and overall intensity. -M.L." (04/11)

"Truffles and dark chocolate, with meat and ripe fruits on the nose. Full bodied, with a solid core of fruit that shows a light salami and fruit character. Chewy. So yummy now, but try it in year or two." (01/11)

"Full deep red with ruby highlights. Slightly reduced nose offers dark berries, bitter chocolate and espresso. Sweet, fat and liqueur-like, if a bit muscular and brooding today. Serious chewy volume and concentration here but a bit chunky. This big boy (15% alcohol) has surprising acidity, not to mention serious dusty tannins. I'd try it again in four or five years." (08/11)
"Very deep ruby with the beginning of orange. Pretty harmless and sweet and soft. Touch alcoholic on the finish, but should please the crowds. Drink 2012 to 2015. (WS) " 15.5 out of 20 points, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages (09/11)
"Our Brunello di Montalcino is produced only with Sangiovese Grosso grapes from our own vineyards. The bunches are rigorously selected for quality and hand-picked into small boxes. Following a gentle pressing, the must undergoes a pre-fermentation at low temperatures in steel and wood fermenters. The alcoholic fermentation takes place rigorously under temperature controlled conditions for 22 days at 30-32°C."
"An extended maceration and frequent pump-overs, punch-downs and delestages optimize the extraction from the skins. The malolactic fermentation is completed in concrete vats before the wineâs ageing phase, which includes 12 months in 25 hl oak casks and another 12 months in 225 litre French oak barriques. Subsequently the wine matures for another year in glass-lined cement vats. A mere static settling, but no filtration, complete the wine making process before its final bottling and its 8 months later release into the market."
"Of intense ruby color, our Brunello shows on the palate alluring aromas of very ripe red berries and delicate spices, while the full body is gratifying and persistent, with outstanding minerality. Remarkable tannins, soft and creamy in texture, confer concentration and aging potential to this wine, a real 'Cru' of great distinctiveness." -Winery
"Marchetti Sergio owner of the estate of Fossacolle, belongs to an old patriarchal family of the 18th century. This family's descendants have ever been living and farming on the land of a large and noble lineage. At the beginning of the '80s, the owner of this land, sold the territories where the Marchettis worked and decided to donate them the 'Podere Fossacolle'. In 1984, the first Sangiovese-vineyards were planted, marking the start of the viniculture activity. "
"Some years later, the vineyards were registered as Brunello di Montalcino, allowing the winery to develop the enological aspects with investiments related to the realization of the cellar for the vinification and aging in wood barrels. On January 1st, 2002, the winery issued their first Brunello di Montalcino, vintage 1997." -Winery
