Description:

2009 - Ketcham Estate Russian River Pinot Noir:
"Medium-deep ruby color; deep, spicy, cinnamon aromas with some red cherry notes; deep, rich, red cherry flavors with cinnamon and spicy notes; silky texture; sweet oak; good structure and balance; long finish. Spicy and deep, this Pinot drinks well now but has structure to age. 901 cases made." 93 Pts Pinot Report

"Nose of black cherries and red pepper. This full-bodied style of Pinot Noir is deep and rich in cherries. Clean and vibrant middle and a long finish with a balanced tannin structure. Leads to a beautiful finish of apricots. Drink now." - 92 Pts - James Suckling - JamesSuckling.com

WINE:
"Aromatics: Deep and profound with red fruits, highlighted by raspberry, strawberry, with hints of warm spice. There are the signature sassafras and mineral nuances with flint, nutmeg, and a touch of clean earth. Palate: The palate is rich and medium/full-bodied. The layers of flavor are focused and pure. Dark red fruits including blackberries, ripe raspberries pair well with the higher toned red currant notes."

"This Pinot Noir possesses the vineyard's trademark depth, intensity, power and breadth, and not at the sacrifice of nuance or complexity. It shows firm acidity, with good balance and structure. The 2009 vintage is showing more elegantly and aromatic than in years past and this wine portrays that elegance on the palate, which we think is an exciting combination. This is a delightful Pinot Noire to pair with a range of fine foods." -Winery

WINERY:
"The Russian River Valley is where our heart and home are when it comes to the Pinot Noirs we make and love. Our wines embody the unique qualities that only Russian River Valley can offer - that wonderful blend of spices, sassafras, red and dark fruits and the beautiful balance that are incontrovertibly present in every bottle of our Pinot Noir."

"Ketcham Estate wines are from our 17-acre vineyard property just off of Eastside Road, in Healdsburg, CA. The property has many microclimates across the vineyard, due mostly to the cooling westerly winds and a variety of soil structures, built from the vineyards proximity to our winding creek that borders the eastern and southern perimeter. This diversity, as well as the many Dijon and Pommard clones provide the wine with broad flavor profiles, great depth and structure. Our 'Old Vine' Pommard-4 block is over 25 years old, the oldest on the vineyard." -Winery

This was also rated 87 points by the Wine Enthusiast.

2008 Ave Malbec Gran Reserva:
"The 2008 Gran Riserva is composed of 100% Malbec that was also sourced from a single vineyard and spent 16 months in new French oak. Balsam wood, exotic spices, lavender, and assorted black fruits set the stage for an incipiently complex wine with enough underlying structure to evolve for 1-2 years. It will drink nicely through 2020+." (12/11) 90 Pts Jay Miller - The Wine Advocate

WINE: "Grapes for the Ave Gran Riserva are selected from 50-year-old vines. The grapes are selected at harvest, de-bunched and put into stainless steel vats and kept at a temperature of 28-30 degrees Celsius. After 20 days of maceration, the wine is moved to French oak barriques for malolactic fermentation. After ageing 18 months in new oak the wine is bottled and rests 12 months before shipping." "An intense ruby-red color with violet shades. The nose presents concentrated aromas of violets, plum and red fruit with hints of vanilla, chocolate and 'dulce de leche.' The Gran Riserva has great structure and wonderful persistence on the palate. It presents juicy integrated tannins, with balanced acidity. A complex full-bodied wine; perfect to accompany the heartiest of meat dishes or to enjoy on its own." -Importer

2006 Hopper Creek Los Chamizal Vineyard Sonoma Valley Cabernet:
"Our Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon has firm, supple tannins with nice acidity which allows it to pair well with food; most notably filet mignon, braised duck, and chocolate souffle. Aromas and flavors of dark chocolate, black cherry, and blueberry. (95% Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Estate Merlot. 336 cases produced)." -Winery

WINERY:
"Our eight-acre property was acquired by Edmond Maudiere and partners in 1976, but not developed until 1984. The six acres of vineyards were originally planted with Pinot Noir vines in north-south rows. In 1991 the vines were pulled and replaced with Merlot stock in an east-west configuration to improve sun exposure and reduce the potential for wind damage. After current proprietor Dieter Tede acquired the property in 1996, Cabernet Sauvignon vines were added to the vineyards."

"Our six-acre Yountville vineyards produce about 3.5 tons of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot per acre annually. We purchase additional super-premium grapes from top growers in Sonoma County to round out our portfolio with Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Petite Syrah." -Winery

More about this wine:
"Grown in the rocky soil of steep hillsides in the Mayacamas Mountain foothills, Los Chamizal Vineyard grapes are noted for their concentrated flavor. The vines are planted above the fog line near the town of Sonoma, giving the grapes greater flavor depth from the intense exposure to the sun. Our Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon has firm, supple tannins with nice acidity which allows it to pair well with food; most notably filet mignon, braised duck, and chocolate souffle. Aromas and flavors of dark chocolate, black cherry, and blueberry" -Winery
