"Here is a lovely Barbaresco that delivers dark pulp and concentration followed by intense aromas of dark fruit, prune, spice, leather, bramble and cigar box. What helps make this wine stand out is its smooth, rich and enduring texture." (09/11) |
91 Pts Antonio Galloni - Vinous |
"The 2008 Barbaresco Rocche Meruzzano is a big, strapping wine. A firm wall of tannin supports an expressive core of dark cherries, menthol, licorice and tar. This is an especially dark, brooding Barbaresco that will require a measure of patience for the tannins to start melting away. There appears to be more than enough sweetness and depth in the fruit to stand up to the structural components. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024." (10/11) |
Description:
WINE:
"A wine based on a conservative oenology philosophy which tends to respect and exalts the grapes as the only true source of quality. The bouquet reveals signs of black cherries and aromatic erbs. Compact in the mouth with sour tannins in youth which evolve gradually in mineral and fruit sensations. Best served at a temperature of 16 - 18 degrees Celsius." -Winery
WINERY:
"The Abrigo family have been tending vineyards for generations, with their skills being handed down from father to son. In 1988 Giovanni Abrigo began working alongside his father, Orlando, in the family business. Giovanni set out first-of-all to implement technical improvements in the winery, with the aim of producing wines of character."
"Subsequently the estate was extended with the acquisition of land and vineyards. Today, the Orlando Abrigo winery farms around 20 hectares of vineyards growing both traditional wines, such as Barbaresco, Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba and wines of the new generation. Together with Virna, he is also involved in the running of the VIRNA estate located in the village of Barolo, which is specialized in the production of the celebrated wine of the same name." -Winery
