93 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"A blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah from 80- to 100-year-old vines (aged in both tank and small oak), the 2010 Vacqueyras La Cantarelle is extremely full-bodied as well as massively concentrated. It boasts an inky/purple color in addition to copious graphite, blackberry, cassis, licorice, floral and incense characteristics. Textured and expansive, this brilliant 2010 will provide immense pleasure over the next decade or more."
"One of the most respected estates in Vacqueyras, Domaine La Garrigue owns over 150 acres (the Bernard family actually owns nearly 200 acres throughout the southern Rhone) from which they produce traditional Vacqueyras. The American importer, Eric Solomon, persuaded proprietor Maxime Bernard to bottle his cuvees meant for the USA market slightly earlier than normal as well as without filtration. Domaine La Garrigue has about 10 acres in Gigondas from which they produce 300+ cases from 60-year-old vines planted in chalky clay and stony soils. The blend tends to be about 75% Grenache and the rest mostly Syrah with a touch of Cinsault, and everything is aged in concrete vats." (10/12)
"La Canterelle is named after a house located in the vineyard at the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirailles. Age of vines: 100+ years. Farming: sustainable. Aging: 24 months in concrete tank." -Importer
"Domaine La Garrigue recalls quintessential Provence: rugged, beautiful landscapes and honest, unpretentious people. The Bernard family, proprietors of both Domaine La Garrigue and the excellent restaurant "Les Florets" in Gigondas, are a generous, honest, and hardy lot. It comes as no surprise that their wines reflect their nature and character offering some of the most affordable and pleasurable drinking in Provence. Domaine La Garrigue takes its name from the wild herbe de Provence and ground cover of Provence called Garrigue, a familiar scent often captured in their bottlings. The estateâs excellent Cotes du Rhone, labeled 'Cuvee Romaine' is named after the myriad of Roman artifacts that were excavated by archeologists on the property in the late 1970's and the early 1980's. Cuvee Romaine is a custom cuvee for Eric Solomon Selections made by famed Rhone oenologist, Philippe Cambie." -Importer
