Description:

2007 Ottimino Zinfandel Ottimino Vineyard:
"Classic Russian River Zinfandel. The vineyard is in the Green Valley, and the wine has the wonderful attributes of ripeness, dryness and acidity, without high alcohol. It’s enormously flavorful, delivering waves of blackberries, cherries, cola, red licorice, bacon, black pepper and sweet oak. A gorgeous Zin showing class and elegance." 92 points Wine Enthusiast (10/11)

WINE:
"Black plum, bramble and ripe raspberry aromas dominate, with hints of black pepper, cherries and licorice chiming in. The wine's entry introduces a complex array of flavors, adding boysenberry and vanilla to the mix. A broad mid-palate leads to a wine of tremendous body, round tannins and persistent finish. The wine's concentration makes it ideal for meals ranging from Salmon and other hearty fish dishes, to more robust roasted poultry and meats." -Winery

VINEYARD:
"Bearing the namesake of our winery's inspiration, Ottimino Vineyard was planted in 2000. Composed of around two thousand vines, Bradford Mountain and Mendocino clones were utilized for budwood; this was then grafted onto St. Georges rootstock to ensure the vines would remain vigorous under dry farming."

"The vineyard rows run north to south, which provides full exposure to the sunlight during the long summer days. The vines are trained in a vertical cordon, allowing the grape clusters optimal exposure to sunlight and the cooling coastal influences. The vineyard is located on a ridge in what is known as a 'banana belt', which an area that has higher average temperatures than adjacent areas. Because the vineyard is located just 8 miles from the coast, the cooling sea breezes ensure a temperate climate year round. Goldridge soil, a mixture of sandy loam on top of mineral rich clay, allows for the vines to be dry farmed and provides the ideal environment for the vines to thrive." -Winery

2010 Max Ferd. Richter Kabinett Veldenzer Elisenberg Riesling:
"Precise flavors of white cherry, red peach and white raspberry are flanked by plenty of rich, creamy notes. Very pure and balanced on the fresh, well-spiced finish. Full of character. Drink now through 2024. 250 cases made. -KM" 92 points Wine Spectator (02/12)

WINERY:
"The estate of MAX FERD.RICHTER has been in the ownership of the family for more than 300 years. Today this enterprise is one of the leading producers of top RIESLING-wines in the heart of the central Mosel area with total holdings of 40 acres and an annual production of about 10,500 cases." -Winery

VINEYARD:
"The Elisenberg vineyard faces almost due south in the beautiful valley running from Mülheim on the Mosel to Veldenz; the 4,3 hectares of the steep slope are largely composed of grey slate and quartz. The microclimate resembles that of the Ruwer valley and gives the Elisenberg Riesling a unique minerally character, quite different from that of the more flowery Middle Mosel wines. The reputation of the Veldenzer Elisenberg vineyard was established when the wines won many awards in the first wine competitions, which were held in the 1850s and 1860s and by the time of the classification of the wines of the Mosel in 1885 it was ranked a First Growth together with Brauneberg, Wehlen, Graach, Piesport and Scharzhofberg."

"Stuart Pigott, the most knowledgeable wine writer, considers the Veldenzer Elisenberg to be among the top quality sites in Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. The Elisenberg Rieslings have aromas of the red peaches which flourish in the vineyards and hints of gooseberries, with concentrated citrus flavours, grapefruit and even blackcurrant from very ripe, late-picked grapes. They all have a long after-taste and great ageing potential." -Winery

2010 Vina Leyda Las Brisas Vineyard Pinot Noir:
"The 2010 Pinot Noir Las Brisas Vineyard was aged for 10 months in French oak, 15% new. It sports darker fruit, greater richness, and more density than the Classic cuvee while also displaying excellent Pinot character and intelligent pricing."

"Vina Leyda, named for the region in which it is located, specializes in cool-climate wines. The new collection ranges from excellent to outstanding." 90 points - Jay Miller - Wine Advocate(02/12)

WINE:
"Bright and intense in color. Clean and direct fruity nose with red cherries, hints of raspberries and a subtle wild herb note. Delicate and refined on the palate. Juicy with ripe flavors of berries combined with mineral notes and a lively acidity." -Importer

VINIFICATION:
"100% Pinot Noir from estate vineyards in the Leyda Valley. The Las Brisas vineyard was planted in 1998 on a southwestern facing slope. Because of this exposure, this block gets somewhat less sunlight and the influence of ocean breezes is higher. The ripening process occurs at a slower pace, contributing to the development of special flavors and aromas. Production in this block is 1.6 tons per acre. The grapes were hand harvested and de-stemmed. 30% of the grapes were kept whole (not crushed) during cold maceration and the beginning of fermentation. The grapes were chilled to 50 degrees F and remained in open stainless steel tanks for 6 days before the introduction of selected yeast. Fermentation took place over 7 days at 80-82 degrees F with punch downs 3-4 times per day. The wine was racked into 2nd-use French oak barrels and aged for 10 months. 14.5% alcohol." -Importer

WINERY:
"Leyda is an innovative winery, dedicated to using the latest technology to analyze every detail of the region. Their ongoing research ensures that each variety performs to its maximum potential and state-of-the-art equipment with a diverse selection of barrel types ensures that Leyda consistently produces some of Chile's most expressive, highest-quality wines."

"The most distinguishing characteristic of Leyda is its location. Nestled in the rolling hills of Chile's coastal mountain range, in its namesake Leyda Valley. Just eight miles from the Pacific Ocean, the area has a distinctly cool, maritime climate with moderate, rainy winters, dry summers and a unique influence from the sea. Sea breezes and ocean mist carried by the Humboldt Current have a tempering effect on the otherwise hot summers of this latitude. Evening fog moves into the vineyards and dissipates in the early morning, with clear days, lots of sunlight and low relative humidity. These climate characteristics allow grape ripening to take place at a slower pace, prompting a robust development of aromas and fruity flavors, and ensuring a perfect balance of sugar and acidity in the wines." -Importer
