95 Pts Neal Martin - Wine Journal |
"Christian Seely's own property. Even more opaque than the Silval, this has a very expressive nose with blackberry, liquorices, a touch of fruitcake and freshly tilled soil. Good definition. The palate has wonderful concentration, with an almost viscous texture, good acidity cutting through those layers of rich black, saturated fruit, leading to a honeyed, svelte finish that caresses the mouth like Fonseca. Superb. Tasted May 2009." |
93+ Pts Roy Hersh - For the Love of Port |
"The upside potential here is impressive. Dark garnet and violet color. Smoky, floral, mocha and strawberry jam scents are delightful and forebode the beauty waiting to be sipped. Soft, smooth raspberry and hints of milk chocolate are approachable and feminine in style. It is easy to enjoy this young but has the underpinnings to drink well for three decades. It will only improve from here and could use a solid eight to ten hours in a decanter to show its best during its infancy. Donât be afraid to drink the Romaneira early on too." (05/10) |
90 Pts Jay Miller - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"The purple/black 2007 Romaneira Vintage Port offers up an expressive nose of Asian spices, espresso, blackberry, and fruitcake. Very concentrated on the palate with excellent depth, volume, and focus, this well-balanced offering will evolve for 8-10 years and drink well through 2027. It is a sleeper of the vintage." (02/10) |
90 Pts Wine Enthusiast |
"Fine perfumed aromas, with an explosion of violets and black fruits. The wine has structure and flavors of tomato juice and blackberries. The tannins jump in, firm and dry with a final dense concentration. The best vintage so far from this newly revived quinta. -R.V." (12/09) |
Description:
WINERY:
"Quinta da Romaneira is the fruit of an investment partnership spearheaded by Christian Seely, the managing director of Quinta do Noval. The group purchased the estate in 2004 with a view both to restore its 180 acres of old vines and to develop a luxury resort focused on the food, wine, and culture of the Douro."
"Perched high above the Douro river, just east of Pinhão, Romaneira's vineyards occupy an ideal location, with the terraces cut into a steep bowl. The site, which had fallen into disrepair, has undergone a massive replanting with both traditional varieties and some experimental vines, including Syrah and Rhone clones of Grenache and Mouvedre." -Importer
