92+ Pts Antonio Galloni - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"Nada's 2006 Seifile is another gorgeous wine blessed with superb delineation and focus. This blend of 80% old-vine Barbera and 20% Nebbiolo (from the Rombone vineyard) possesses striking clarity and inner perfume that accompanies the fruit all the way to the long, refined finish. The 2006 is a relatively mid-weight version of this wine, yet it offers notable balance, not to mention tons of style. The wine is approachable today, but personally I tend to drink my bottles around age 8-10. A recent bottle of the 1999 was splendid. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018." |
Description:
"This wine is from Rombone in the commune of Treiso, Piedmont. It consists of 80% Barbera, and 20% Nebbiolo. It spends 18 months in barrel, and 12 months in bottle. The wine goes great with pasta, red meat, and cheese dishes, or by itself as a conversation companion." - Winery
VINEYARD:
"Our vineyards, which cover an area of about seven hectacres, all within the Rombone and Manzola crus, are situated in the Treiso, in the Barbaresco zone of the Langa Hills. They lie on a very steep hillside at an average altitude of 250 meters. Here the cultivation of nebbiolo, barbera and dolcetto grapes goes a long way back in time. It stands as a living tribute to the wisdom of men who understood the huge potential of these grape varieties and have handed their historical legacy down to us. The vines are arranged in rows according to the traditional Guyot vertical trellis system. The vines and the soil are worked with respect for the equilibrium of the environment, a sine qua non for quality grapes. Work begins in the winter months with the pruning of old shoots. It proceeds in the spring-summer with work on the new vegetation. The bunches of grapes, for example, are thinned out in the summer months to help the fruit mature. Then comes the much awaited grape harvest. Dolcetto grapes are gathered in mid September, barbera in early October, and nebbiolo in the middle of the same month. When the last bunch has been picked and the new wine is being made in the cellar, the soil is already being thinned out to allow the new buds to grow to perfection with the first warmth of the new spring.
ROMBONE:
"The area comprises some of the greatest vineyards in Treiso, it's regular southwest exposure allowing it to enjoy the very last rays of the setting sun. The soil is mainly calcareous and clayey and yields wines of outstanding complexity and longevity. The cellar is surround by our vineyards; the historic Barbaresco Rombone and Seifile, the newer Dolcetto d'Alba, the stupendous Barbera d'Alba and the recently developed Nebbiolo michet, adjacent to the cellar itself."
HISTORY:
"Bruno Nada has been in a winemaking family for as long as he can remember. Instead of selling grapes, Bruno asked his family to rig out a cellar and start bottling wine from their vineyards. With his father's wisdom, the project he started long ago is continuing year by year. People from all over the world come to see Bruno and his father at their home in Rombone, where it is all tied together. It is a family affair as Bruno's two children work alongside him in the vineyard and wine cellar."
