Description:

2008 Tenuta Monteti Caburnio:
"The 2008 Caburnio is one of the very best wines from Tuscany in its price range. Espresso, mocha, sweet grilled herbs and plums wrap around the palate in this deep, inviting wine. Hints of licorice, crushed flowers, tobacco and new leather add complexity on the striking, nuanced finish. Caburnio is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Alicante-Bouschet and 20% Merlot aged partly in oak and partly in steel. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. Tenuta Monteti remains arguably the single finest source for reasonably priced wines in Maremma." 92 Pts Antonio Galloni - The Wine Advocate (06/12)

"Marked by sweet black cherry flavors, this red also evokes cedar, lead pencil and floral notes. Fresh and firm, with fine balance and a lingering aftertaste. Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante and Merlot. Best from 2013 through 2022. 2,833 cases made. -BS" 91 points Wine Spectator (10/12)

WINERY:
"Tenuta Monteti is in Tuscany in the southern part of the Tuscan Maremma, in the surroundings of the small town of Capalbio, on the hills, just behind the hill named Monteti. It is 15 km from the sea in a straight line. The altitude goes from 100 to 140 mt above sea level. "

"MONTETI is the name of the hill where part of the estate lies. The hill is exactly in front of the vines and protects them from the wind that comes from the sea. It is 425 mt (1394,36 feet) high and on the top there are ruins of roman and medieval settlements."

"The Tenuta Monteti is a family owned property. The initiative is the result of the personal engagement of Paolo Baratta, who personally runs the business (with the full support of Gemma and Eva). Carlo Ferrini has been at his side since the beginning and now still has the key role of consultant, with the support of Gioia Cresti. Roberto Rossi is responsible of the vineyard operations. Andrea Elmi is the oenologist of the Tenuta, responsible of the cellar and of the commercial branch." -Winery

2009 The Hedonist Cabernet Sauvignon:
"Deep ruby. Bright, aromatic nose offers spicy blackberry and cherry aromas complemented by tangy white pepper and mineral overtones. Ripe cherry and blackberry flavors stain the palate, gaining sweetness with air and picking up dusty tannins and a hint of smokiness. Shows very good clarity on the finish, which echoes the dark berry note." 90 Pts Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar (10/11)

Winemaking Notes:
"The fruit for the Hedonist Cabernet is grown biodynamically on our own vineyard situated in the Willunga foothills, McLaren Vale. Warm Summer days are cooled by evening sea breezes from St Vincent's Gulf, which lies a close proximity to the West. The soil is rich loam over clay with patches of underlying limestone, giving the wine a rich and fullness of pallet."

"The 2009 Vintage was characteristically mild and dry through mid to late Summer allowing for small berries within intense colour and flavour, giving high levels of ripe skin tannins."

"After gentle crushing, the must was pumped into traditional open fermenters with twice daily pumping over and hand plunging. Fermentation continued at up to 30 degrees Centigrade ensuring optimum extraction of long chain, soft tannins."

"This Cabernet was racked, fermentation was completed in oak. Maturation of the wine occurred in 70% new French and one year old American Oak." -Winemaker
