Description:

2009 - Ketcham Estate Russian River Pinot Noir:
"Medium-deep ruby color; deep, spicy, cinnamon aromas with some red cherry notes; deep, rich, red cherry flavors with cinnamon and spicy notes; silky texture; sweet oak; good structure and balance; long finish. Spicy and deep, this Pinot drinks well now but has structure to age. 901 cases made." 93 Pts Pinot Report (07/11)

"Nose of black cherries and red pepper. This full-bodied style of Pinot Noir is deep and rich in cherries. Clean and vibrant middle and a long finish with a balanced tannin structure. Leads to a beautiful finish of apricots. Drink now." - 92 Pts - James Suckling - JamesSuckling.com (06/11)

WINE:
"Aromatics: Deep and profound with red fruits, highlighted by raspberry, strawberry, with hints of warm spice. There are the signature sassafras and mineral nuances with flint, nutmeg, and a touch of clean earth. Palate: The palate is rich and medium/full-bodied. The layers of flavor are focused and pure. Dark red fruits including blackberries, ripe raspberries pair well with the higher toned red currant notes."

"This Pinot Noir possesses the vineyard's trademark depth, intensity, power and breadth, and not at the sacrifice of nuance or complexity. It shows firm acidity, with good balance and structure. The 2009 vintage is showing more elegantly and aromatic than in years past and this wine portrays that elegance on the palate, which we think is an exciting combination. This is a delightful Pinot Noire to pair with a range of fine foods." -Winery

WINERY:
"The Russian River Valley is where our heart and home are when it comes to the Pinot Noirs we make and love. Our wines embody the unique qualities that only Russian River Valley can offer - that wonderful blend of spices, sassafras, red and dark fruits and the beautiful balance that are incontrovertibly present in every bottle of our Pinot Noir."

"Ketcham Estate wines are from our 17-acre vineyard property just off of Eastside Road, in Healdsburg, CA. The property has many microclimates across the vineyard, due mostly to the cooling westerly winds and a variety of soil structures, built from the vineyards proximity to our winding creek that borders the eastern and southern perimeter. This diversity, as well as the many Dijon and Pommard clones provide the wine with broad flavor profiles, great depth and structure. Our 'Old Vine' Pommard-4 block is over 25 years old, the oldest on the vineyard." -Winery

This was also rated 87 points by the Wine Enthusiast and 86 points by the Wine Spectator.

2008 Summers Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon:
"More limited in availability, but still a bargain is the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (only 1,450 cases produced). It possesses a dense purple color, striking intensity and plenty of charcoal-infused black currant and blackberry fruit as well as a chocolate earthiness. This ripe, full-bodied, dense 2008 should drink nicely for a decade or more."

"One of my favorite value wineries is Summers Estate, whose winemaker, Ignacio Blancas, does a terrific job of getting maximum varietal character from these realistically priced wines." -92 points Robert Parker (08/11)

"A supple cabernet with the dark scent of wild blueberries, this has the elegant weight and finesse that vines can give in Knights Valley. It show a bit of crafting in its chocolate-rich tannin, but it still feels true to the place. For roast lamb." 91 points Wine & Spirits (10/11)

WINE:
"The Summers Family produces this Cabernet Sauvignon from grapes grown at their home ranch in Knights Valley. This vineyard has produced many-award winning wines by several wineries over the past twenty-five years. Knights Valley lies at the base of Mount St. Helena, situated between the Napa and Alexander Valleys. Beautiful weather and rolling hills of alluvial and volcanic soils make this a distinctive site to grow quality grapes. This wine displays balance, massive structure, length and elegance with fruit aromas of black cherry and blackberry, and spicy notes of clove." -Winery

This wine is also rated 88 points by the Wine Enthusiast.

2007 CHATEAU HAUT BRISSON LA RESERVE:
"The outstanding 2007 La Reserve is one of the vintage's most interesting wines. Its new oak component is more than adequately compensated for with copious quantities of black currant and black cherry fruit, cedarwood, and spice box notes. Generous and opulent with medium to full body and a long, layered finish, it should drink well for 7-10 years." -90 points Robert Parker

"80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon , and 5% Cabernet Franc. The aromatics are really full, you've got this raspberry/radish thing going on that I think is fascinating. So you get a little hint of vegetal, with a lot of fruit as well. This still has tremendous structure and tannins, balanced throughout, and really an aggressive Right Bank structure that really excites me. This is a red fruit wine, not a dark fruit wine, with a midpalate that's kind of chalky, grainy, and a hint of Old World, that really this is not going to be mistaken for a Washington State Merlot. This is through and through Old World Bordeaux. This is easily one of the better deals we've had in 2011." -Gary Vaynerchuk
