Description:

2009 Cave De Tain Crozes Hermitage Les Hauts Du Fief:
"A ripe red, with dark, alluring roasted fig, espresso and mulled blackberry fruit that manages to stay fresh and racy through the finish, where licorice snap and roasted apple wood notes add length and definition. Drink now through 2014. 6,000 cases made." 91 points Wine Spectator

WINE:
"Deep and dark colour. The nose is complex and remarkably intense with blackberry fruits, cherries and mocha. Generous mouthfeel with similar notes, well-structured but balanced. Fine grained, velvety tannins. Long and persistent finish on cherries, liquorice, mocha."

VITICULTURE & VINIFICATION:
"Pebbles made of fluvio-glacial alluvium - stony, warm and filtering. Extremely dry in the summer favouring healthy and early maturing of grapes. Long maceration and running off warm into French oak barrels for 12 months."

DOMAINE:
"The Cave de Tain has revived an original Syrah vineyard in Crozes Hermitage, in association with 7 other growers. Located in the heart of the appellation, in Gervans, this vineyard enjoys an exceptionally good site and faces the Rhone : it is planted on slopes made up of granite sand with ideal exposure to sunlight."

"It is a showcase for the growers' historic savoir-faire, with traditional trellising (échalas) and terraces supported by dry stone walls. This plot has been completely replanted with SYRAH vines and is vinified separately to compose one facet of our Crozes Hermitage plot selection : Les Hauts du Fief."

This wine was also scored 87-88 points by Robert Parker and 88 points by the International Wine Cellar.

2009 Clos Du Mont Olivet Cotes Du Rhone Serre De Catin:
"A 100% Grenache cuvee, the 2009 Clos du Mont-Olivet Cotes du Rhone Serre de Catin (translates to 'Hill of the Bitch') has a decidedly feminine character, showing pretty raspberry and crushed berry fruit, spice, and floral notes. This impression is mirrored on the palate where the wine is medium bodied with a silky, fresh texture, quality fruit and a long finish that wears ripe, fine-grained tannin. Very pretty and elegant, this will be a wine to drink over the following 8 to 10 years." 89-91 points - Jeb Dunnuck - Rhone Report

"Full ruby. Expressive red and dark berry aromas show very good clarity and a slow-mounting floral quality. Sappy and lush, with a silky texture and good depth to its fresh, peppery raspberry and cassis flavors. Shows impressive persistence and energy on the finish, which leaves a spicy note behind." 90 points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar

WINE:
"Single vineyard site coming from the 'Serre de Catin', a mainly sandy terroir. A partial destemming (60%) takes place and the vats are gravity filled. The wine is made avoiding maximal extraction, on the contrary the sought after qualities are elegance and freshness. The wine is kept in enamelled vats and bottled 8-10 months after the harvest to preserve the fruit aromas." -Winery

WINERY:
"The wines of this estate, which traces its history back to 1547, are among the finest of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Run by the esteemed Sabon family, Clos du Mont-Olivet is made in a traditional style: partial destemming of grapes, crushing and fermenting in concrete vats, and aging in large foudres."

"Making wine is a family affair at Clos du Mont Olivet, and the three Sabon brothers - Jean-Claude, Pierre and Bernard have run the domaine for the last 30 years, with Bernard's son Thierry gradually assuming winemaking duties, starting gradually in 2001. The wines are composed predominantly of Grenache (usually around 80%), with Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault completing the blend. The vines of this estate average over 60 years old."

"Blending wines sourced from these three areas, the Sabons fashion complex Chateauneuf-du-Pape that combines the fruit intensity and alcoholic strength of Grenache with a slight and appealing hint of rusticity. It only makes sense that such a renowned Chateauneuf producer would also make fabulous Cotes-du-Rhone, which indeed they do; year after year, these are among the best Cotes-du-Rhone values to be found." -Importer

This also scored 88 points in the Wine Advocate.
