2006 - LA GERLA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO
"La Gerla offers a spectacular Brunello that hits all the right marks in terms of intensity, beauty and staying power. This is an opulent and rich wine with plump blueberry flavors followed by chocolate fudge and sweet exotic spice. You can either cellar it or enjoy it within the next few years."
94 Points Antonio Galloni
The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino presents an alluring, seductive bouquet of sweet herbs, licorice, crushed flowers, mint and minerals. This mid-weight, graceful Brunello needs time in the glass to show off its pedigree, but it is a classic, understated wine graced with exquisite finesse. The wine puts on weight with air, filling out its frame very nicely, with waves of fruit that caress the palate all the way through to the harmonious, resonant finish. This substantial, firm Brunello will require patience, but its potential is amply evident, even today. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026."
92 Points James Suckling
"Aromas of licorice and blackberries follow through to a full body, with silky tannins and a fruity finish. This is a refined and silky young wine. Give it two to three years of bottle age."
91 Points Stephen Tanzer
"Deep red. Discreet notes hints at cherry pit, dried rose and Indian spices. Densely packed but not at all overly sweet. Rather powerfully built but a bit clenched today. Not really sexy yet, but has the chewy, tactile back end and firm, ripe tannins to reward seven to ten years of cellaring. Quite long and youthful on the aftertaste."
90 Points Wine Spectator
"This floral- and cherry-scented red is elegant and supple, picking up a tobacco note on the palate. Moderate tannins emerge on the finish, where a spicy accent lingers. Best from 2013 through 2024. 3,000 cases made. -BS"
2005 PERTIMALI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO
"A rich and decadent Brunello, with tobacco, berry and coffee character that turns to meat. Full and soft. Best after 2010." 93 Points Wine Spectator
"The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino is seriously dark, rich and intense. Black cherries, underbrush, new leather and licorice all come together in a sensual, powerful expression of Sangiovese. There is surprising depth to the round fruit. Though delicious today, this is one of the few 2005 Brunellos that needs bottle age for some of the tannins to soften. It is a fabulous 2005. There will be no Riserva in 2005 as Sassetti used all of the best fruit for the regular bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023."
"This is a fabulous set of new releases from Sassetti that readers will absolutely not want to miss." 93 Points - Antonio Galloni - The Wine Advocate
"Very deep, concentrated brown ruby with concentrated orange-brown rim. Opulent, sweet and somewhat stewed. Hints of kitchen spice. Lengthy sweet fruit on the palate. Not the most complex, and the hot vintage shows itself clearly in the fruit character. (WS)" 16 out of 20 points, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages
"In northeast Montalcino, the Sassetti family has produced wine for more than a century. On the hill known as Montosoli, Pertimali's wines are renowned for representing the perfect balance between the fruit-forward wines of southern Montalcino and the dense, structured, mineral wines of the north. In the vineyard and in the cellar, father Livio and his two sons work in observance of time-honored traditions, including hand harvesting, giant oak botte, and spontaneous fermentations, all in accordance with the phases of the moon and organic farming regulations. The wines are rich, deep, and perfumed, reflecting a very genuine style of Sangiovese. The label, while emphasizing the name of Livio Sassetti, the proprietor, also bears the estateâs historical name, Pertimali." -Importer
