Description:

2005 PERTIMALI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO:
"A rich and decadent Brunello, with tobacco, berry and coffee character that turns to meat. Full and soft. Best after 2010." 93 Points Wine Spectator

"The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino is seriously dark, rich and intense. Black cherries, underbrush, new leather and licorice all come together in a sensual, powerful expression of Sangiovese. There is surprising depth to the round fruit. Though delicious today, this is one of the few 2005 Brunellos that needs bottle age for some of the tannins to soften. It is a fabulous 2005. There will be no Riserva in 2005 as Sassetti used all of the best fruit for the regular bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023."

"This is a fabulous set of new releases from Sassetti that readers will absolutely not want to miss." 93 Points - Antonio Galloni - The Wine Advocate

"Very deep, concentrated brown ruby with concentrated orange-brown rim. Opulent, sweet and somewhat stewed. Hints of kitchen spice. Lengthy sweet fruit on the palate. Not the most complex, and the hot vintage shows itself clearly in the fruit character. (WS)" 16 out of 20 points, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages

WINERY:
"In northeast Montalcino, the Sassetti family has produced wine for more than a century. On the hill known as Montosoli, Pertimali's wines are renowned for representing the perfect balance between the fruit-forward wines of southern Montalcino and the dense, structured, mineral wines of the north. In the vineyard and in the cellar, father Livio and his two sons work in observance of time-honored traditions, including hand harvesting, giant oak botte, and spontaneous fermentations, all in accordance with the phases of the moon and organic farming regulations. The wines are rich, deep, and perfumed, reflecting a very genuine style of Sangiovese. The label, while emphasizing the name of Livio Sassetti, the proprietor, also bears the estate’s historical name, Pertimali." -Importer

This was also rated 89 points by the International Wine Cellar.

2006 Cargasacchi Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills Cargasacchi Vineyard :
"A very 'Burgundian' Pinot Noir in the mushroom, pine needle and herb scents that accompany the deeper fruit flavors of black cherries and red currants, accented with savory clove spice. Structurally, the wine shows a brilliant architecture of firm tannins and crisp acids, with a deft touch of oak. Really a treat to drink, and should evolve for many years." 94 points Wine Enthusiast

WINE:
"The 2006 Cargasacchi Pinot Noir is well balanced with a nose that shows hints of earth, sage and violets with dominant cherry and black currant/cassis. The tending towards darker fruit aromatics lead to and compliment the velvety and rich mid-palate texture. Red and dark fruits, including blackberry and raspberry puree are framed in the mouth by crisp refreshing acidity before melting into silky but firm tannins." -Winery

WINEMAKING:
"The fruit was hand harvested and destemmed but the whole berries were not crushed. Destemming was followed by a five days cold soak with dry ice prior to fermentation in 1-ton open top fermenters. Fermentation was allowed to begin with native yeast, then inoculated to assure complete fermentation. Raised in small 228 liter barrels consisting of tight-grained sessile oak from three different forests near the center of France, the wine was racked once during the 15-month elevage and bottled on December 2007. The wine is made with 100% Dijon clone 115 from Morey St. Denis, the most widely planted scion selection in Burgundy, France. The Dijon 115 is planted in shallow, high lime, calcareous shale soils but grafted onto a rootstock with poor tolerance for limestone, (3309 Couderc) to devigorate and decrease cluster and berry size." -Winery

This wine also scored 86 points in the Wine Spectator.
