2009 DUORUM TONS DOURO RED
"Firm and minerally, with good power behind the dark plum, cherry and spice flavors. Notes of dust and dark chocolate linger on the refined finish. Drink now through 2016. 10,000 cases made. - KM" 90 points Wine Spectator
"Tons de Duorum is inspired by the bright colors that result from the reflection of the sun on the Douro River ('tons' means color nuance), creating different tones in the vineyards. This wine expresses the terroir of the fantastic Douro region, the result of a unique interaction between nature and human effort. Made from a blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz sourced from the Castelo Melhor and Costodio vineyards."
"The Tons is ruby red in color with violet tones. The nose is dominated by aromas of strawbereies, raspberries, blackberries and prunes, which blend beautifully with secondary aromas from aging in barrel, such as spices and nuts. Well-balanced acidity, soft and ripe tannins and a persistent finish result in a very elegant wine. Pair with red meats, barbecue dishes, pastas and cheese." -Importer
"The name Duorum, which is Latin for 'from two,' captures the spirit of this renowned Portguese winery. The perfect union of unparalleled talent and unique terroir, Duorum is widely recognized as a gold standard for Portuguese wines. With over three generations of history between their families, internationally acclaimed oenologists Joao Portugal Ramos and Jose Soares Franco both graduated from El Instituto Superior de Agronomia (Higher Institute of Agronomy) in 1977."
"Upon graduating with degrees in agronomy, both gentlemen received work placements at the National Winegrowing Station at Dois Portos from 1977 to 1978. In the thirty years that followed, Joao and Jose have left an indelible mark on the industry, both domestically and internationally. Seeking to combine their superior skills and passion for winemaking, Joao Portugal Ramos and Jose Maria Soares Franco founded Duorum in 2007. By combining the best qualities of the Douro & Alentejo, two of Portugal's most celebrated wine regions, Duorum has consistently produced wines of exceptional style and quality." -Importer

2008 DUORUM COLHEITA TINTO DOURO
"The Duorum 2008 Colheita is a blend of Touriga Nacional (40%), Touriga Franca (40%), and Tinta Roriz (20%). Aged for 12 months in 80% new oak, it is dark ruby to the core with ripe black fruit, violets, and earthy aromas. Rich and concentrated, it displays layers of black and red fruit that linger on the palate with herbal notes. This is a big wine from the lower slopes of the Douro Superior blended with some higher altitude Touriga Nacional." 91 Points - International Wine Review
"A juicy, muscular style, with chewy flavors of red currant and plum, which feature accents of raspberry and spice. The condensed finish of mineral and white pepper is pure-tasting and refreshing. Best from 2012 through 2018." 90 Points - Wine Spectator
"Part of the grapes for this COLHEITA wine are crushed in stainless steel lagares (troughs) by robotized treading and the remaining is de-stemmed and crushed. In both cases the crushed grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature of 28o C, following a post-fermentative maceration. Maturation / Elevage in French and in a small quantity of American oak barrels of 225 litres for approximately six months." -Winemaker
