"This Côtes-du-Rhône is made with 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre from vines which average 50 years of age. Though this is labeled as a generic Côtes-du-Rhône, 100% of the fruit comes from two "Village"-level communes: Sablet and Seguret." -Importer
WINEMAKING:
"The red Cotes du Rhone from Domaine Saint Gayan does not follow the fashion for easy-drinking, light and facile wines. It is above all a wine of character, and a wine of the soil in the Saint Gayan tradition. The grapes come entirely from Cotes du Rhone Villages vineyards - in particular from Sablet, which borders Gigondas. Old vines ensure a full-bodied, broad and deeply-coloured wine."
"Starting with the 2001 vintage, grapes are now partially destemmed, bringing more subtlety and finesse to the cuveÌe. The noble origins of these grapes allow a potential for ageing of 3 to 5 years." -Winemaker

"Domaine Saint Gayan is a small estate located at the foot of the spectacular Dentelles de Montmirail in the Gigondas appellation. One of the great estates of the Southern Rhone, the owners, Jean-Pierre Meffre and his wife Martine produce wines of enormous power and concentration. With 1/3 of the vines being about 100 years old and the yields consequently low, the Gigondas has all the complexity and intensity of flavor one can expect from the Rhone."
"In a good vintage, the Rasteau, Gigondas, and Chateauneuf du Pape will easily age for at least 15 years in bottle.
