91 Pts Ian Dagata - Vinous Media

"Medium red with a hint of amber. Lovely floral perfume and vinosity on the nose, with subtle nuances of red rose, kirsch and tar; very nebbiolo! The penetrating, sappy red fruit and sweet spice flavors show surprising lift and definition given the year, thanks to beautifully balanced acidity. Almost Burgundian on the intensely red-fruit finish, which features sophisticated tannins." 91 Points - Ian D'Agata - International Wine Cellar

"The 2007 Nebbiolo d'Alba La Val dei Preti is a soft, seamless Nebbiolo that impresses for its fine overall balance. Soft and seamless on the palate, the wine offers up a gorgeous array of red cherries, dried flowers and spices in an accessible and attractive style. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015." 90 Points - Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate

"Matteo Correggia's one hundred percent Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC comes from the Val dei Preti Cru; the name means valley of the priest. This south facing vineyard sits at a 280 meter elevation; the soil composition is sixty-nine percent sand, twenty-eight percent silt and three percent clay. After harvest in mid October, there is a six to eight day maceration period with frequent punch downs and delestage; fermentation is finished in barrique. Wine is aged for 18 months in half new and half neutral barrique. About 1000 cases are produced each year." -Importer

"The Roero district is located in the lower-altitude, rounded, sandy hills north of the Tanaro River and northwest of the Langhe. Young Nebbiolo and Barbera from this region have a particularly fresh and lively character. In 2001, Matteo Correggia tragically passed away just as he entered Piedmont's winemaking elite. With the help of Giorgio Rivetti (of the famous La Spinetta estate), Matteo’s wife Ornella took over the estate, carrying on her husband's passionate desire to expand the reputation of the Roero. Nebbiolo 'Val dei Preti' is also classic Roero: from 30 year old nebbiolo vines planted in three hectares of sandy-limestone soil, the wine ages 12 months in new French oak."

"The estate defines the agricultural management as 'natural and sustainable whenever possible'. The latest edition 'Vini d'Italia' (Gambero Rosso Editore), sets the estate within the 'natural agronomy' category. Sulphur- and copper-based products are utilized predominantly. Only manure is used as fertilizer. Spontaneous cover crops (grass cover) are left between the rows of vines, the grass is mowed and the soil is tilled so to work the plant substance (green manure) into the ground. No chemical weed-control products are used. There is a very limited use of SO2 in the wine." -Importer
