Description:

2006 Bisceglia Aglianico Gudarra:
"The 2006 Aglianico del Vulture Gudarra is firm, tannic and impressively youthful. Dark fruit, menthol, licorice and new leather are some of the nuances that emerge from this virile, powerful Aglianico. Roasted coffee beans, licorice and grilled herbs add further layers of complexity. Everything comes together beautifully here; all this wine needs is time in the bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021."

"Mario Bisceglia’s stylish wines continue to get better and better with each passing vintage. Even better, these delicious reds offer incredible quality for the money." 92 points - Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate

"A smoky, rustic red, offering layers of spicy blackberry and plum skin fruit that unfold to reveal nuances of wild herb, mesquite and game. Complex and long, with an aftertaste of espresso bean. Drink now through 2018. 1,000 cases made. –BS" 91 points - Wine Spectator

ESTATE:
"The Bisceglia Estate is an important and dynamic winery offering a range of top quality products. Founded in 2001 by Mario Bisceglia that after many years spent in the corporate food industry, decided to go back his land and found the winery. The goal is producing world class wines made with both indigenous and international varietals grown in the Basilicata region. Today the winery sells in Italy and in ten foreign countries." -Importer

VARIETY:
"Aglianico is a black grape grown in the Basilicata and Campania regions of italy. The vine originated in greece and was brought to the south of italy by greek settlers. The name may be a corruption of vitis hellenica, latin for "greek vine". Another etymology derives the name Aglianico from a corruption of apulianicum, the latin adjective which indicates the whole of southern italy in the roman age. In early roman times, it was the principal grape of the famous Falernian wine which was the Roman equivalent of a first growth wine today." -Jancis Robinson - Ozford Companion to Wine

2008 Accornero Barbera Del Monferrato Giulin:
"The 2008 Barbera del Monferrato Giulin is a lovely wine from one of the lesser-known appellations in Piedmont. Clean, mineral notes lead to dark red berries, flowers and cloves, all of which are layered beautifully in this exquisite Barbera. There is lovely clarity, precision and balance in the Giulin, qualities that were especially hard to come by in 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016." -90 points - Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate

WINE:
"100% Barbera. The soils consist of calcareous-marl and the vineyard is 308 meters above sea level. The grapes are manually harvested in the beginning of October. The wine is fermented for 15 days in a traditional 'submerged cap' vinification with scheduled pumping over. Giulin wine is cold stabilized. 50% are aged in tonneaux and 50% in steel aging for 6 to 8 months after the harvest. Bottling takes place during summer and then 3 month bottle refinement follows. We use exclusively French woods." -Winery

WINERY:
"Accornero family members have been vine growers for four generations, and they still produce high quality wines with the same passion and devotion that inspired great-grandfather Bartolomeo. Bartolomeo Accornero, born in 1839, and his wife, Giuseppina Lasagna, already owners of a small agricultural holding adjacent to the present vineyard estate, had five children. Besides managing his own lands, helped by his son Giuseppe Bartolomeo also took over the management of 'Palazzo dei Conti di Callori' estate (today home of Vignale Monferrato Regional wine centre)." -Winery
