94 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Petits Pieds d'Armand (100% Grenache from sandy soils) exhibits sweet aromas of kirsch liqueur, tobacco leaf, spring flowers, licorice, and hints of truffles and incense. Deep, full-bodied, rich, and long, this is a superb success for the vintage. Consume it over the next 15+ years."
"Olivier Hillaire has taken over most of the vineyards that once comprised Domaine des Relagnes, and has profoundly changed the wines from very good to sensational. The 2007 Chateauneuf du Papes are Hillaire's finest wines to date." 94 points Robert Parker
"Dense but polished, with a great, creamy mouthfeel to the fig, black licorice, plum and currant preserve flavors, all followed by a very racy graphite edge on the long, intense finish. Has impressive drive. Drink now through 2028. 350 cases made. -JM" 94 points Wine Spectator
"Glass-staining ruby. Exotic aromas of black raspberry, kirsch, cola and Asian spices, with a strong undercurrent of smoky minerals. Pliant and enticingly sweet, with smoky red and dark berry compote flavors, gentle tannins and an intriguing floral quality. Really stains the palate, finishing with outstanding clarity and persistence. This is showing extremely well right now. (Hillaire created this domain from vines purchased from his father-in-law Henri Boiron, who retired in 2006 and sold off his Domaine des Relagnes.)" 92 points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar
WINE:
"100% Grenache from a 1.8 ha parcel with sandy soil in La Crau. The vines were planted in 1899 and the yield is 25-28 hl/ha. The wine is aged in tank (a small part) and in demi-muids or barriques." -Importer
WINERY:
"Domaine des Relagnes existed until 2006 owned by Henri Boiron. The domain covered 16 ha of Chateauneuf du Pape and 3 different cuvees of red Chateauneuf du Pape were made, the basic cuvee, Cuvee Vigneronne and Cuvee Les Petits Pieds d'Armand. Henri Boiron's son-in-law Olivier Hillaire worked at the domain and with assistance of the oenologist Phillippe Cambie the wines got a high reputation."
"In 2006 Henri Boiron decided to retire and wanted to sell the property. 80% of the fields were sold to the owner of Chateau Calissanne, producer of Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence in Lancon de Provence. This domain also owns the buildings situated at Route de Bedarrides. The rest of Domaine Relagnes was purchased by Olivier Hillaire who now owns 3 ha of Chateauneuf du Pape and 5 ha of Cotes du Rhone." -Importer
