Description:

2009 Domaine La Milliere Chateauneuf Du Pape Vieille Vignes:
"The stunning 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (from 80-100+ year old vines) gives some credibility to the vignerons' arguments that in the drought-stricken 2009 growing season, the northern Chateauneuf du Pape parcels were less impacted than those in the south. Domaine La Milliere's vineyards are all in the northern sector. The deep ruby/purple-hued 2009 possesses abundant blackberry, black cherry and cassis fruit intermixed with notions of camphor, truffles, garrigue and licorice. Dense, thick and rich, it is potentially one of the few 2009 Chateauneuf du Papes that will eclipse its 2007 counterpart. An opulent, voluptuous texture, long finish and heady combination of herbs and super-concentrated fruit make for a wine that can be drunk upon release or cellared for 12-15 years." 92-95 Points - Robert Parker

VINEYARD:
"Round smooth pebbles, clay and sand. Sloping vineyard, located in the area of Cabrieres, north of Chateauneuf-du-Pape Appelation Controlee." -Winery

WINE:
60% Grenache (vineyard planted between 1891 and 1920) 10% Mourvèdre - 10 % Syrah 10% Cinsault - 10% Counoise

"Exclusively hand-picked, hand-selected and stemmed grapes 20 to 25 days of fermentation Aged in vats, and then in casks from June Bottled after 2 or 3 years.

"Deep garnet-coloured, bright. Very ripe black fruit nose. Ample and voluptuous on the palate with concentrated aroma of red cherries, blackcurrants, garrigue and liquorice. Matured tannins. Very long on the palate with a final light sweet note. This wine will keep well for at least 10 years." -Winery

2009 Domaine La Garrigue Vacqueyras:
"The 2009 Vacqueyras (70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault) exhibits a dark plum/ruby color, serious density and concentration and classic Provencal aromatic and flavor profiles of garrigue, licorice, kirsch, blacker fruits and hints of earth and truffles. One of the three lots that will go into this wine showed some oak, which does not make sense given the fact that the wine is aged in cement. Perhaps its sappy character was from the old vines. Domaine La Garrigue's Vacqueyras have a very impressive track record for aging up to 10 years, so I don't think there will be any problem as they are loaded with density and extract and have good serious structure without being astringent or overbearing." 90-93 Points - Robert Parker

WINE:
"This wine is the product of a supple assembly of four varieties; Grenache 80%, Syrah 10%, Mourvedre 5%, and Cinsault 5%. The robe has great depths. The nose is of black fruit with a touch of licorice and very elegant spicy notes. The mouthfeel is full and fleshy with long-lasting fruit flavors." -Importer

TERROIR:
"The Climate is of Mediterranean type, characterized by lots of sunshine, low rainfall and lots of Mistral wind. The Mistral blows on around 120 days a year and is really good for vine health; limiting fungal disease including mildew or botrytis. The climate is temperate, thanks to the influence of the pre-alpine Dentelles de Montmirail, handing our appellation all the trump cards necessary for wines with very distinctive and original characteristics."

"The estate's vineyards are on the communes of Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Sarrians. The average vine age is between 40 and 60 years old for the Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache Blanc, Cinsault and Clairette, while some of our Grenache vines are between 80 and 100 years old. " -Winery

ESTATE:
"Domaine La Garrigue is set in the heart of the Vacqueyras appellation area (Southern Cotes du Rhone), in the Vaucluse department of France. The estate buildings are just 2.5 km from the main village, on a plateau called Les Garrigues."

"The estate was created in 1850, and has always been worked by the same family, spanning 6 generations. The Bernard family has always worked in respect of tradition, crafting authentic natural wines that are typical of the terroirs they came from." -Winery
