"The 2007 Gigondas Cuvee Tradition exhibits ripe raspberry and cherry fruit intermixed with notes of loamy soil, crushed rocks, and bouquet garni as well as a meaty, dense, chewy texture with no hard edges. It should drink well for 7-8 years." 88-90 Points - Robert Parker

ESTATE:
"Domaine des Espiers was created in 1989 by Philippe Cartoux, a native of Gigondas, whose family has been there since the late 1800's. Today the estate is recognized as one of the best in Gigondas. Philippe owns 14 hectares of vineyard in Gigondas, Sablet and Violes. The parcels are on different terroirs ranging from the sandy clay of Sablet to hillside limestone/clay of Gigondas. All the vineyards are in the process of conversion to 100% organic viticulture. One aspect of the estate that is completely unique is the planting density. An average vineyard in the area is planted at about 3,500 vines per hectare while Philippe planted at 5,400 vines/ha. This results in fruit with a higher concentration of flavor with fewer bunches per vine."

"Philippe's wines are well known for being intensely perfumed and floral, smooth and supple. His winemaking methods are all designed to be gentle throughout the process, allowing for his wines to be elegant and ready to drink in their youth. Production at Domaine des Espiers is very small at only about 3,000 cases annually." -Importer

VINIFICATION:
"In the cellar, Cartoux blends old and new methods, all with the aim of making a natural wine with aromatic richness and soft enough to drink young. He destems when he feels it is required only, he favours strongly a pre-fermentation cold maceration and always uses natural yeasts and low levels of SO2. And he likes to use a good proportion of super-ripe Syrah for aroma and acidity."

"Espiers Gigondas is usually easy to spot in a line up of Gigondas wines. Whereas Gigondas is usually powerful and wild - and sometimes tough - Espiers tends to be intensely perfumed and floral, cool, smooth and supple. His wine is easy to drink young (which is what he wants) and exudes amazing aromatic richness and freshness. At the same time, they keep a strong sense of place." -Importer International Wine Cellar also scored this wine 88 points.
