90 Pts Antonio Galloni - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"Succulent ripe peaches, apricots, flowers and lightly honeyed tones are wrapped together in a soft, caressing frame in the 2009 Pecorino Le Merlettaie. Despite the plush style, this offers gorgeous overall balance not to mention tons of style. The expressive, perfumed fruit leaves a lasting impression on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013." 90 Points - Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate |
Description:
ESTATE:
"The Ciu Ciuââ¬â¢ estate started in 1970 as a very small, family owned winery with ââ¬Åqualityââ¬Â and ââ¬Årespect of the landââ¬Â as its core philosophies. Although the winery has grown considerably over the years, these philosophies remain the same. The winery and vineyards are situated along the rolling hills of the countryside in Le Marcheââ¬â¢s Offida region. This area is considered the heart of Rosso Piceno Superiore, Falerio dei Colli Ascolani and Offida DOC wines regions."
"A great deal of attention has been spent in the last decade to the pursuit of premium quality wines, and the wines continue to improve. One main tenet that has been consistent at Ciu Ciu is that fine wine is made in the vineyard, not in the cellar. You must start with quality grapes to make quality wine." -Importer
REGION:
"The area around Offida produces red, white and Vin Santo Italian DOC wine. The grapes are limited to a harvest yield of 10 tons/ha with the finished wines needing a minimum alcohol level of 12%. The reds are a blend of 50-70% Montepulciano and at least 30% Cabernet Sauvignon with other local red varieties permitted up to 20%. There are two varietal white wines produced in the DOC based on Pecorino and Passerina with the primary grape needing to compose of at least 85% of the wine and other local white varieties permitted up to 15%."
