Description:

2007 Conn Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon:
"As I indicated last year, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a brilliant effort. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, it has begun to shut down slightly, but reveals an opaque purple color along with deep, sweet, cedary, black currant aromas intermixed with hints of tobacco leaf, licorice and graphite. Full-bodied, powerful and rich, this impressive 2007 needs 4-5 years of cellaring and should keep for 25+ years." -94 Points Robert Parker

"Todd Anderson and his winemaker, Mac Sawyer, are on top of their game at this backwater winery tucked away in Conn Valley, a few miles east of the Meadowood Resort. Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyards became famous because of their long-lived, impressive 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from their estate vineyards in Conn Valley. They have added two brilliant proprietary reds, the Right Bank (usually dominated by Merlot with the balance Cabernet Franc), and the Eloge, a wine that is based on a French Medoc with two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Conn Valley’s wine possesses a distinctive singularity as there is not another wine in Napa that is reminiscent of them" -Robert Parker

2005 Nicholas Cole Michele:
"Generous, elegant and distinctive for the spice box overtones that drape smoothly over the open-textured blackberry and tar flavors, providing a deft dance of fruity and savory that keeps its balance through the long finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2009 through 2017. 802 cases made. -HS" -92 points Wine Spectator

"Very ripe flavors of berries and figs dominate this Cab-centric Bordeaux blend, along with intriguing side notes suggesting melon and cassis, smoke and mocha. It’s a big, sexy wine, its fruit flavors backed with thick, ripe, but chalky tannins. If there is a downside, it is that it comes off as a bit monolithic." -90 points Wine Enthusiast

WINE:
"Aromas of cinnamon, mushrooms and dark chocolate integrate with spicy oak nuances. The flavors of blackberry, cherry, cassis and pepper marry on the palate. The finish showcases the bright acid and intense, dusty tannins of what will come to be known as one of the best vintages of the decade." -Winery

This also scored 89 points by Jay Miller of the Wine Advocate.

2006 Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon:
"Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon is a quintessential Napa Valley Cab. The season provided the ideal combination of cool evenings and warm-cool days. Allowing a slow, even ripening that let tannins, sugars and flavors develop in unison. The result of this long hang time is a wine with supple tannins, complexity, intense flavors and excellent overall balance." -Winery

WINERY:
"Thirty-one vintages ago, Justin Meyer took over winemaking at Franciscan with a highly meticulous approach. He divided our Oakville estate into separate sections and made a collection of individual wines from them, each with a unique expression. He then blended the best lots together with extra care to create a wine with a distinct profile – rich, concentrated flavors yet soft, gentle tannins. On the back label he wrote, “This 1975 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon represents the style and character we wish to make synonymous with Franciscan.” And so our tradition of small lot winemaking began."

"Over time we’ve added more vineyards, but our Oakville estate - still divided into the original vineyard blocks – continues to form the core of our Cabernet Sauvignon. With each vintage, we make up to 200 separate lots of wine, and then hone the blend during the year-and-a-half of barrel aging, blind tasting trial blends repeatedly before selecting the final blend. Only the finest lots are included." -Winery

This wine was scored 87 Points Wine Enthusiast and 82 Points Wine Spectator.
