Description:
2006 Colonial Evangeliste Chardonnay:
"The 2006 Evangeliste Reserve Chardonnay saw one-third of the wine aged in new French oak for 6-7 months with no malolactic fermentation. It is light gold colored with toasty, tropical aromas, particularly pineapple. Broad on the palate with adequate acidity, the wine offers some finesse as well as ripe, tasty flavors and a medium-long finish." -90 Points - Jay Miller - Wine Advocate
"Greenish straw. Smoky, lees-accented orange and white peach aromas display exotic nuances of bacon, dried flowers and minerals. Chewy pit fruit flavors are dense and ripe but nicely braced by energetic minerality, which carries through the long, juicy finish. Gains weight on the back without losing focus. This is drinking beautifully right now." -90 points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar
VINIFICATION:
"Following whole bunch pressing, the juice is immediately chilled to 6°C where it remains for several days before the sediment is filtered out, and fermentation is started using selected aromatic Champagne yeast. Carbon dioxide gas protection throughout, plus low temperature fermentation, maximise freshness and fruitiness, and this is carried out in 1-year old French oak barrels. Early bottling ensures the conservation of this wineâs crispness." -Importer
2009 Domaine Jean Touzot Macon Villages:
"Jean Touzot's Macon Villages is a text book example: a lively bouquet of green apples and flowers (acacia is notable) and good, crisp persistent, juicy green apple and melon Chardonnay fruit. It is the perfect all-purpose white wine, served chilled but not ice-cold. This wine goes particularly well with lighter fish and fowl dishes, shrimp and crab, cold meats, and is also a perfect aperitif. The Touzot Macon Villages represents outstanding value in Chardonnay." -Importer
DOMAINE:
"The Touzot family domaine is located in the northernmost part of the Macon region, just south of the Cotes Chalonnaise. The 10 hectares of vineyards, in the commune of Martailly les Brancion, next to Mancey and Tournus, are planted half with Pinot Noir (for Bourgogne Rouge) and Gamay (for Macon Rouge) and half with Chardonnay. The Chardonnay is planted on slopes at an average altitude of 200 meters with clay-limestone soils. The vines average 30 years of age, making for a more concentrated and complex wine."
"The grapes are 100% hand harvested and quickly pressed in a state of the art bladder press, in order to extract all the fruit and aromas while avoiding any bitterness. Touzot ferments the juice in temperature controlled, stainless steel cuves. The wine is bottled in May, and released for sale after four months of bottle age. " -Importer
