Description:

2004 GRIMALDI BAROLO SOTTO IL CASTELLO:
"The 2004 Barolo Sotto Castello di Novello is a super-ripe wine bursting with generous notes of blueberries, spices, violets and sweet toasted oak. This poised, well-defined Barolo possesses lovely depth and vibrancy. It isn't the most typical Barolo out there, but it does offer outstanding harmony in its own way. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019." -92 points- Antonio Galloni- Wine Advocate

"Ripe fruit, with hints of tar and spices. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins, along with blackberry and dark chocolate. Mouthpuckering. Powerful. Best after 2012. 500 cases made." -92 points Wine Spectator

WINERY:
"Giacomo Grimaldi, was founded in 1930 by Ernesto Grimaldi. In 1983 the winery was inherited by Giacomo, who sold the greatest part of his grapes in bulk, while keeping only a small part to be bottled for sale to a mostly local clientele."

"In 1996 Ferruccio Grimaldi, Giacomo's son decided to continue the family wine business. Animated by a great passion, Ferruccio started to produce wines exclusively from the family's vineyards. He began acquiring vineyards of Nebbiolo in the most prestigious Barolo zones, firmly convinced of the great potential of Barolo wine."-Importer

This scored 88 points by Stephen Tanzer of the International Wine Cellar.

2007 Waters Pepperbridge Syrah :
"Ripe and round, fleshy but not weighty, brimming with sassafras-accented cherry and guava flavors that linger on the pure, refined finish. The tannins are a bit crisp. Needs some cellaring. Best from 2012 through 2017. 298 cases made." -93 Points - Wine Spectator

"Bright ruby-red. Aromas of dark cherry, menthol, spicecake and chocolatey oak. Juicy, sappy and intense; a step up in density and chewiness from the Loess but not at all overly sweet. There's a lightly saline quality here that accentuates the varietal character of this wine. Finishes with solid chewy tannins and very good length." -90 points - Stephen Tanzer - International Wine Cellar

VINEYARD:
"Located in the Cottonwood Glen area of the eastern edge of the Walla Walla Valley, nearly on top of the Oregon state line, Pepper Bridge Vineyard was planted in 1991 by Norm McKibben. Beginning with just 10 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, this vineyard has grown to over 190 acres and includes numerous other varietals. The soils are deep silt and loam, and the vines are planted on elevated terrace islands formed by ancient slackwater drainage from the Walla Walla River at about 900 feet elevation."

"These islands sit above the valley floor which maximizes air drainage. Vertical shoot positioning of the vines maximizes sun exposure. The vineyard utilizes drip irrigation, with season long moisture monitoring to maximize fruit quality and vine health. Wines made from Pepper Bridge Vineyard have distinct characteristics, such as earthiness, black pepper, notes of eucalyptus and intriguing floral components. Pepper Bridge Vineyard is also sustainably farmed and VINEA certified.* Always a late ripening site, we can count on this vineyard year after year for its balance and classic Walla Walla profile, evident in both the aromatics and palate." -Winery

This wine was also rated 89 Points by the Wine Enthusiast.

2007 Te Awa Syrah :
"A dynamic red, focused and elegant, spreading a blanket of black pepper over a core of blackberry, currant and licorice flavors that keep kicking through the long, vivid finish. Best from 2011 through 2017. 600 cases made." -93 Points - Wine Spectator

"As with all Te Awa Wines our Syrah is hand harvested and is a direct expression of our unique terroir. Intriguing aromatics of dark flowers, sweet red fruits and a grind of pepper and spice. This wine is deeply coloured, rich and warm with a velvety textured palate and vibrant flavours." -Winery
