Description:

2005 RIOJA VEGA RESERVA:
"The 2005 Reserva is a blend of 50% Tempranillo, 25% Mazuelo, and 25% Garnacha that spent 24 months in seasoned American oak. Purple-colored, it emits an enticing bouquet of mineral, damp earth, cigar box, incense, and assorted black fruits. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it reveals layers of savory fruit, plenty of earthy spice notes, incipient complexity and enough underlying structure to evolve for another 2-3 years. It will offer prime drinking from 2012 to 2020. It is an outstanding value." 90 Points - Jay Miller - The Wine Advocate

WINE:
"Made with a painstaking selection of Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano grapes. The wine is aged for two years in oak casks followed by further ageing in the bottle for at least twelve months. Ripe cherry red, with good depth and very clean. Intense, complex aromas of leather, tobacco, balsam and spices, evincing the excellent contribution from the wood. Warm, well-assembled and structured in the mouth; meaty and balanced." - Winery

VARIETIES OF GRAPES:
"Tempranillo: It is grown on 77.615 acres (61% of D. O. Calificada Rioja); its cultivation increases to the detriment of other varieties. The grape is native of Rioja. Tempranillo is safe at curdling, very vulnerable to insect pests, drought and high temperatures. It produces a balanced grape juice: sugar, colour and acidity, although the later may be slight sometimes. It has a frank bouquet, very interesting in young wines and velvety in aged ones. It is considered the most important variety; in fact it occupies the widest area in the Denominación."

"Mazuelo: This variety covers 3.5% of the D. O. Calificada Rioja: 4.535 acres. 550.000 acres are cultivated in the world, from which 517.500 only in France. Its origin is French, it is known under the name Carignan Noir. This variety is highly productive, but very sensitive to oidium. It needs more thermal integral than the other varieties. It does not ripen correctly in cool areas. The grape juice is rich in colour and acidity, with a hard and slight bouquet. The wines are rich in tannin and rather rough."

"Graciano: It is the red variety that covers the smallest area of cultivation: only 0.7% of the Denominación (987 acres). Its cultivation is also very reduced in other areas, although the grape is very interesting. Its origins are Spanish. More resistant to insect pests than Tempranillo, the must is bright red; it has an acid and pleasant bouquet. It is the most perfumed variety of our Denominación. " - Winemaker

2007 O FOURNIER CENTAURI:
"Big and broad, with currant paste, espresso and loam notes that manage to stay fresh, thanks to graphite, tobacco, pepper and mineral flavors that extend through the finish. There's also a nice loamy echo. Drink now through 2011. 500 cases imported. -JM" -91 points Wine Spectator

"The 2007 Centauri is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Carignan aged for 12 months in French oak and bottled without filtration. It offers a more sophisticated aromatic array of underbrush, scorched earth, cigar box, leather, and assorted black fruits. Medium- to full-bodied, it has big mid-palate, lots of spice, and notes of chocolate. It has enough structure to evolve for several years and should be at its best from 2011 to 2019." -91 points- Jay Miller- Wine Advocate

"A wine with a strong constitution, Centauri is a model for the new Maule. Structure is key here, but so is the bright red-fruit flavors fronted and backed by mineral and toasty oak. Somewhat Bordeaux in style, but more forward and vivid." -91 points Wine Enthusiast

"Ruby-red. Sexy aromas of cherry-cola, blackcurrant and smoky Indian spices. Fleshy and sweet, offering deep dark berry flavors, with a bitter note of cherry skin adding grip. Clings impressively on the finish, leaving behind a sweet note of cassis pastille." -90 points- Josh Raynolds- International Wine Cellar
