Description:

Paulet Brut NV:
"The estate was founded towards the end of the 19th century, but it only really took off commercially in the 1930s, under the direction of Hubert, Paulet the current owners Grandfather. It is currently being run by the 4th generation of the family. The winery buildings also date back to the end of the 19th century. The family owned vineyards cover about 20 acres and are entirely in the village of Rilly, Premier Cru."

"The goal is to 'extract' the best from this terroir, by working the soil and introducing the practice of controlled natural grassing (E.N.M). Although it is hard work (summer 2003 was excruciating), this conversion, which they have been practising now for over three years, has a host of things to teach about our soil and the way it works. The average age for the vines is about 22 years, which keeps yields low." -Importer

GROWER CHAMPAGNE:
"I can’t stress enough what great value is to be found among the better growers’ champagnes – those made by the people who grow the vines, as opposed to the wines blended by the big houses from grapes they buy in (and, in some cases, grow themselves)."

"Current trends among these artisan producers include decreasing yields, increasing use of oak for fermenting and ageing the still wines, lower levels of dosage, or no dosage at all, and wines that are rather less aggressively fizzy than the champagne norm." -Jancis Robinson

2007 Deumayen Trez Reserva Malbec:
"Bodegas Deumayen's 2007 Trez Reserva Malbec was aged in 33% new French oak for 12-14 months. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up an alluring nose of spice box, mineral, smoke, and black cherry. Medium-bodied and elegant on the palate, it is mouth-coating, savory, and concentrated. Give it 2-3 years to fully blossom and drink it from 2012 to 2022." -92 Points - Jay Miller - Wine Advocate

WINERY:
"Roberto de la Mota is the genius behind TREZ, a single-vineyard wine from Alto Agrelo in Lujan de Cuyo. Roberto, who oversees the vineyard management as well the winemaking, made his reputation when he ran Cheval des Andes. Today he is considered one of the best Winemakers in Argentina."

"Bodegas Deumayén was established in 2007, in the Province of Mendoza, Argentina, by three successful entrepreneurs and friends sharing a common wish to develop wines which demonstrate the best of Argentine land and talent."

"Roberto Timms of British descent, Jorge Ramirez with a Spanish background and Esteban Zombory from a Hungarian family, agree in their belief that wine making comes hand in hand with “great determination”. This is why they have named the winery ‘Deumayen’ which means exactly that in the indigenous language of the Mapuche people, from South America."

"The partners have a great passion for wine and Esteban Zombory has experience in this sector. His family wine business, Zombory Pince, produces wines in the famous Tokaj region of Hungary."

"Their first creation at Deumayen, the Trez Malbec Reserve 2007, was made using grapes from the best vineyard settings, using the most up to date vinification practices. It is a wine that brings together the best traditions of the Old World and the enterprising spirit of the New World." -Importer

WINE:
"The TREZ vineyards are located in Alto Agrelo, Lujan de Cuyo, 1,100 meters above sea level, in a privileged terroir, where there is a fresh and dry climate and the Malbec grapes reach maturity without phytosanitary treatments. Harvested in late march, the grapes were brought to the winery in 18kg boxes. After careful manual selection, the grapes were placed in 100 and 200 hecto-litre stainless steel tanks for a maceration of 21 days. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine is moved to new (one-third) and one year used French (Taransaud) oak casks for 12 to 14 months aging."

"Intense deep red color, with a violet tint. Ripe and deeply fruited aromas with concentrated notes of black cherry, sour cherry, plums and licorice. The vanilla, caramel and toast from the oak emerge creating a mature and complex unity with outstanding violet floral notes. The aroma follows through to a full, powerful body full of ripe flavors and well structured body. Despite its concentrated, fruity character this is a soft wine with round tannins, and a complex and lingering after-taste. It will gain more complexity when aged and can be cellared for more than 10 years." -Importer
