"Pale, bright yellow. Pungent aromas of musky lemon peel, cress and white flowers. Juicy and brisk, with a steely quality to the flavors of white grapefruit, green apple and minerals. Shows a slight spiciness but there's very little new oak here. For all its juicy cut, this offers good texture and does not come off as hard." -89 points- Stephen Tanzer- International Wine Cellar |
Description:
"The 2008 Sauvignon Blanc, aged in neutral oak, offers up notes of honeyed grapefruit in its crisp, light to medium-bodied, zesty white. Drink it over the next several years." -88 points Robert Parker
"The following notes confirm what I wrote last year about this somewhat under-the-radar winery. Snowden produces just under 2,000 cases of extraordinary wine from their 23 acres of hillside vineyards on the eastern side of Napa, above the Auberge du Soleil. Proprietor Scott Snowden and his daughter, Diane (whose permanent home is in Burgundy), along with consultant David Ramey have fashioned superb reds along with a delicious, French-inspired Sauvignon Blanc. " -Robert Parker on Snowden in his review
WINE:
"The grapes became our Sauvignon Blanc 2008 come from the Beckstoffer Vineyard in Rutherford. They were hand-picked at 23.5 degrees Brix and were still cool when they arrived at our winemaking facility in St Helena. We pressed the clusters whole and fermented the juice in a combination of used white wine barrels and stainless steel barrels. The natural fermentation began within days and continued slowly over a month and a half until dry. We then blocked the malolactic fermentation to preserve the wine's natural acidity and aromas. We kept the wine on its lees until it was bottled, unfiltered, June 4, 2008. Only 400 cases made." -Winery
