Description:

Aubert de Villaine, co director of DRC and Larry Hyde are just two of the names behind the exciting HDV project in California.

VINEYARDS:
"HdV Wines are sourced exclusively from Hyde Vineyards...Covering sedimentary terraces, Hyde Vineyards is blessed with shallow loamy soils and ancient streambeds that work in conjunction with the cool Carneros climate and gentle winds to create moderate hydric stress within the vines. It is this condition of moderate stress that encourages the vines to maximize their potential."

"The 2005 vintage in Los Carneros was cool and slow paced. After an early budbreak in the middle of March, Hyde Vineyards experienced wet weather in May and June. Summer also consisted of cool weather thanks to the San Pablo Bay fog influence. From maturation through harvest, days were sunny and mild, allowing Merlot and Cabernet flavors to develop gradually with pronounced acidity and expressive complexity." -Winery

WINE:
"The nose features the restraint of the old world contrasted by the opulence of the new world. Showcased are complex aromas of sweet spice and intense black fruit that evolve into black pepper and red fruit with time. Ultimately, a balanced wine with elegant, soft tannins countered with a backbone of fresh, natural acidity. The purity of the fruit lingers on the finish and makes the wine a perfect match for rack of lamb or any dry rubbed steak. The 2005 Belle Cousine favors decanting an hour before serving. It should continue to improve for 10 to 15 years." -Winery

WINEMAKER:
"Joining our venture in 2002, Stephane brings with him skills in vineyard management and winemaking from around the world. Born and raised in France, Stephane's skills were cultivated in the vineyards and cellars of Pommard, Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet and then expanded through his work in Switzerland, New Zealand and finally in the Sonoma Coast Appellation. With a strong background in biochemistry and advanced degrees in enology and viticulture, Stephane turns his focus toward the vineyards and the soils to develop his wines. Stephane works closely with both Aubert and Larry to adapt and implement only the strictest viticultural and vinification techniques of France to the fruit of Hyde Vineyards." -Winery
