"Similar to last year's bottling, this single-vineyard Zin shows lush flavors of briary wild blackberries, cherries and blueberries, sprinkled with dusty Asian spices, with hints of cocoa, pepper and anise liqueur. The tannic structure is pure Napa, classically rich and balanced." -91 points Wine Enthusiast

WINE:
"This wine is red berries, dried fruits, cinnamon and clove. Aged in Hungarian oak barrels (20% new) for 16 months, the spicy tones from the oak are well integrated and a nice counterpoint to the rich fruit characteristics. This is a softer, gentler wine with low intensity tannins. The finish is long with a gentle grip of slightly sweet tannins. It has a very enticing texture that belies the nice natural acidity. Basically, it tastes great and will make you a happier person. 1,000 cases made." -Winery

VINIFICATION:
"As we typically do, we chill the freshly crushed must down to about 40F for three to four days. This allows us to extract some very nice color, flavor and textural components prior to fermentation. Equally as important, we can get a good grasp on really how much sugar we've got. Zinfandel is usually a very uneven ripener, and the brix can actually continue to increase after crushing as sugars are extracted out of the thick skins."

"In 2006, we drained and pressed the tank at dryness. This decision was based on tasting the tank each day. As is our tendency and preference, we use Hungarian oak for the Zinfandel, as we love the spicy component it adds to the natural pepperiness of the wine. This wine was aged in barrels (20% new Hungarian) for 16 months and held in bottle for about 6 months prior to release." -Winery

VINEYARDS:
"2006 marks our sixth vintage of Zinfandel for CrauforD. The grapes are grown in an oak-shaded knoll in Chiles Valley. The vines are about 15 years old and offer a nice balance of ripe fruit and bright acidity each year." -Winery
