91 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"Deep red. Sexy raspberry and cherry aromas complicated by exotic spices and incense. Sweet and silky, offering bitter cherry and dark berry skin flavors, gentle tannins and refreshing mineral bite. Becomes sweeter with air and finishes with youthful firmness but no rough edges. Understated, elegant and nicely balanced; this is delicious right now." -91 Points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar

WINE:
"Mas Mallola reflects the characteristics and essence of Porrera. The influence of the vineyard soil (slate) and the particular climate create a true expression of terroir combined with flavour complexity and mature, balanced fruit." -Winery

VINIFICATION & VITICULTURE:
"90% of the blend is aged for 20 months in French oak Burgundy barrels from five different coopers 225L and 300L. 10% is aged during 12 months in concrete tanks and 8 months in French oak Burgundy barrels. Mas Mallola comes from 18 ha of vineyards, all organically farmed. We adapt biodynamic methods to our particular environment."

"Manual picking. Selection of grapes both at the vine and entering the winery. Different parcels and grape varieties are vinificated separately. Slow and natural fermentation using only indigenous yeasts. 10 days of fermentation at aprox. 28ºC and 30 days of maceration. Age of the vines: Between 11 and 40 years old. Vineyard yields: 500-1300 grms per vine." -Winemaker

ESTATE: "The winery whose building was completed in 2005 is located on one of the four terroirs, some seven metres from the village of porrera, at the entrance of the land. I consists of 1.500 square metres arranged over three floors, two of which are more than seven metres underground. In this way, gravity is used for each of the stages of wine production, and the temperature and humidity levels required for the proper ageing and keeping of wines are achieved naturally."

"The vinification facilities consist of cement tanks and open topped wooden fermenters, in which the vinification of the grapes from the different parcels and varieties is carried out. The wines are aged in in French oak barrels with capacities of 225 and 300 litres during at least 20 months." -Winery

This wine was also rated 88 points by the Wine Spectator.
