"The stunning 2001 Expression is 100% Tempranillo from a single vineyard planted in 1927. The wine was barrel fermented and aged 18 months in new French oak before being bottled unfiltered. Purple in color, it gives up a high-class nose of smoke, spice, tar, meat, blueberry and blackberry. In the mouth the wine is full-bodied, nearly seamless, fleshy, and loaded with layers of ripe fruits and well concealed tannin. The finish lasts for over 45 seconds. Mariano Garcia of Vega Sicilia fame helped transform this property into one of the major players in Rioja Alavesa. Hundreds of small plots are dry-farmed and harvested by hand. Angel Ortega, the winemaker is as meticulous as they come, choosing his grapes and barrels carefully, he has developed an interesting range of wines"-Importer
