This was a tremendous vintage.

"Wonderfully perfumed, majestically refined Brunellos with an excellent balance of fruit and refined tannins. Reducing yields was key to quality. 97 Points"

Description:

2004 VITANZA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO:
"This is impressive for the vintage, with loads of crushed berries and spices, as well as hints of leather and flowers. Full-bodied, with soft and silky tannins and a long finish of sweet fruit. Rich and exciting. Better than the 2001. Best after 2010. 8,000 cases made." -94 points Wine Spectator

"Tenuta Vitanza is a tiny world of its own that revolves within the tiny world of Montalcino. The winery is located at the furthest extreme of the winemaking zone and its owner, Guido Andretta is a wonderfully bi-cultural Italian-American. His wines are always delicious and 2004 is particularly so: It’s fresh and plump with enormous depth of fruit, spice and licorice aromas." -92 points Wine Enthusiast

VINIFICATION:
"The vineyards are 11 years old. The grapes are pre-soaked in a cold temperature for three days, with pump-overs following the density and the temperature under computer control. The wine is aged for 3 years, in France tonneaux for 30% and 70% in large Slavonia barrels. This is released after 5 years from the harvest, in April." -Winery

This wine scored 88 points by Antonio Galloni of the Wine Advocate.

2004 LA RASINA BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO:
"Shows blackberries, with hints of minerals and dried flowers on the nose. Intense aromas. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, long finish. Very long and beautiful. Best after 2011. 2,500 cases made." -93 points Wine Spectator

"La Rasina's 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is a dense, full-bodied wine packed with ripe, dark plums, violets, new leather and sweet, fragrant spices. This is an opulent, fruit-driven style of Brunello, yet the wine possesses the gorgeous inner perfume, vibrancy and clarity of a top-flight wine. The sweet, long finish and soft tannins make this an excellent choice for drinking now and over the near-term. This is another outstanding effort from proprietor Marco Mantengoli. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016." -90 Points- Antonio Galloni- Wine Advocate

WINE:
"The Brunello ages for 5 years, 2 of which are in oak casks and at least 6 months of refining rest in bottles. The color is ruby-red tending to garnet, scented nose of fruit and spice, the taste is robust and highly persistent. If it is well kept, it will last many years. It is suggested to open the bottle 2 hours before sipping the wine." -Winery

This also scored 87 points by Stephen Tanzer of International Wine Cellar.

2004 PIAN CORNELLO BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO:
"PianCornello opens with very nice intensity and a dark Brunello color with aromas of cured meat, ripe blackberry and exotic spice. It’s a bigger, thicker expression of the wine with firm tannins and ripe berry flavors backed by just enough acidity to keep the palate refreshed." -91 points Wine Enthusiast

WINERY:
"The estate vineyard at Piancornello was bought by the Pieri Family in 1950. The fruit was sold to other Montalcino producers until they began making there own wine starting with the 1990 vintage. Silvana Pieri owns the estate and her son Claudio Monaci is the winemaker. Piancornello takes its name from the hamlet just South of Montalcino where the winery is located. Because of the warm climate this is considered one of the finest areas of Brunello." -Importer

This scored 89 points by Antonio Galloni from the Wine Advocate, 88 points in the Wine Spectator, and 88 points by Stephen Tanzer of the International Wine Cellar.
