"Tasted twice at UGC tastings, it was actually under blind conditions that the Climens 2007 re-confirmed its status as the best Sauternes of the vintage. It retains an ethereal bouquet of honey, white peach, apricot and orange-blossom with ethereal purity and joie de vivre. The palate is medium-bodied with exquisite balance and essence of mineralite. It balances on tiptoe with perfect acidity that effortlessly counterpoises those layers of rich honeyed fruit; the finish taut, vibrant and with a sense of place. This is outstanding in every way. Perfect? I would not bet against it deserving that loaded adjective one day in the future. Drink 2015-2050." -99 points- Neal Martin- Wine Advocate

"A big, rich wine, showing its gorgeous fruit easily. But with a core of dryness, the ripest apricots touched by caramel, it should age well over many years. There is intense power here, still hidden by the youth of the wine, but with final concentration." -98 points Wine Enthusiast

"This delivers loads of citrus aromas, along with dried apricot and honey on the nose, as well as toffee. Full-bodied, with a medium sweetness, spicy, fruity flavors and a long, racy, spicy finish. There's toffee and caramel as well. Hard not to drink now. Best after 2014." -93 points Wine Spectator

"The vineyard is 30 hectares, planted solely with Semillon. The average age of the vines is 35 years old. The soils are sandy-clay, with iron and calcium deposits. The wine is vinifed in small lots, done in French oak barrels that are 35-45% new and is aged over a period of 20-24 months." -Winery; translated by KM

"There are only 400 cases of the 2004 J. Daniel Cuvee, and it is a beauty. The wine exhibits plenty of creme de cassis, licorice, white chocolate, and graphite. Full-bodied, with sweet tannin and a long, structured finish, this wine is going into a more dormant stage than when I tasted it last year, and I would give it another 2-3 years of bottle age before drinking it over the following 15-25 years." -94 points- Robert Parker- Wine Advocate

"This is what people who pay a hundred bucks for a Napa Cab expect. Soft, ripe and enormously attractive, it seduces the palate with gooey red and black currant, cherry, blueberry, melted Swiss chocolate, anise and cedar flavors that just pile up and up and go on and on. The tannins, needless to say, are the finest money can buy. It’s impossible not to be impressed by a wine of this pedigree and accomplishment. Probably at its succulent best now and for the next 6 years." -94 points Wine Enthusiast

"Saturated ruby. Medicinal aromas of blackberry, blueberry, licorice and menthol; from the nose I would have picked this as coming from the northern Medoc. Offers very good life in the mouth and boasts more richness, sweetness and pliancy than usual for this bottling. Finishes with substantial tongue- and toothdusting tannins that do not come off as hard. Particularly ripe for this blend, and highly successful as a result. The very small crop ultimately yielded just 425 cases, vs. a typical 800 to 1,000." -92 points- Stephen Tanzer- International Wine Cellar

"Dense and chewy, with an earthy mineral edge to the dried currant, sage and dusty berry flavors. Tight and compact, with firm tannins, this picks up a nice anise and cedar character on the finish. Tannic. Needs decanting. Best from 2008 through 2017. 400 cases made." -90 points Wine Spectator

"Our flagship wine is named for John Daniel Jr., ancestor to the Lail Vineyards legacy. The 21st century interpretation of the family’s highly acclaimed Cabernet blends of the past, the J. Daniel Cuvee is a beautifully integrated, elegant and subtly Bordelaise blend that is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon."

"Our winemaker, Philippe Melka comments that 'the wine, made from a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Merlot, already reveals the ingredients of a "grand vin". The amazing intensity of aromas combines black currant, tobacco, cigar box, licorice and minerals. There is perfect harmony in the mouth with a combination of lush, sweet character and longevity. Today the wine shows as the most complex J. Daniel Cuvee Lail Vineyards has produced so far.'" -Winery
