Description:

2004 ONDARRE MAYOR RESERVA RIOJA:
"This firm, compact red delivers black cherry and cassis fruit, with leafy, licorice and mineral accents and a modest oak component. There's firm, well-integrated tannins and a fresh, leafy finish. Not showy, but has depth and purity. Drink now through 2018. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 8,000 cases made." -93 points Wine Spectator

WINE:
"The grapes are selected from low yielding vines in Viana. Four weeks in the vat with fermentation controlled at 28-30 degrees C. with pumping over daily and 'delestages'. Malolactic breakdown in the cask and subsequent ageing on the lees until the first racking. Afterwards the wine was aged in oak casks. Deep cherry red with inky hues, a complex bouquet of fruit aromas, spices and smoky aromas on the nose. On the mouthfeel, it has backbone and lots of concentration, which bodes well for a long life." -Winery

WINERY:
"Bodegas Ondarre, founded in 1986, belongs to the Bodegas Olarra Group, one of the most famous names in the Denominacion de Origen Calificada Rioja, but with wines with a character of their own. Bodegas Ondarre is located in Viana, a historic town 8 kilometres from Logrono (La Rioja), rich in tradition, still preserving traces of its medieval fortress. Its name comes from a hundred-year old country house, the property of the founders of the wine cellar." -Winery

2006 ANAM CARA RESERVE PINOT NOIR:
"Supple, generous and appealing for its spicy, licorice-accented cherry and blackberry flavors, lingering with fine balance on the harmonious finish. Drink now through 2014. 280 cases made." -91 points Wine Spectator

"The 2006 Pinot Noir Reserve reveals smoke, toast, mocha, and earth notes. Supple, medium- to full-bodied, and with some structure, the wine has plenty of sweet fruit on the mid-palate but is slightly compressed in the finish. Drink it over the next 6 years." -90 Points - Jay Miller - The Wine Advocate

"This too reflects mild reduction on the nose and I would suggest decanting it first. Airing allows the nose to reveal ripe dark red cherry and earth notes that complement the nicely fresh, round and reasonably well detailed medium-full flavors that possess good mid-palate concentration and a sappy, delicious, complex and solidly long finish that, despite the elevated reported alcohol, does not seem unduly warm, indeed this carries it with almost no obvious warmth. I like the complexity here." -90 Points - Allen Meadows - Burghound

"Delicious, some of which is owed to the tasty, toasty new oak barrels. But the Burgundian fruit, expressive and elegant with a pleasing mix of raspberries, cherries and cinnamon spice, nicely balances out the barrels. Balance is the key here, and this rather soft, substantial, yet elegant wine delivers the goods." -90 points Wine Enthusiast

2004 QUINTA DO ROMANEIRA PORT:
"This wine's luscious fruit gives it a velvet nap, its architectural structure elevating the fruit over the tannin so you can taste the tight weave of plum and schist. It's sleek and harmonious, worthy of ten years of age, but not pushed to be anything more than delicious." -92 points Wine & Spirits

WINE:
"Quinta da Romaneira is the fruit of an investment partnership spearheaded by Christian Seely, the managing director of Quinta do Noval. The group purchased the estate in 2004 with a view both to restore its 180 acres of old vines and to develop a luxury resort focused on the food, wine, and culture of the Douro."

"Perched high above the Douro river, just east of Pinhão, Romaneira's vineyards occupy an ideal location, with the terraces cut into a steep bowl. The site, which had fallen into disrepair, has undergone a massive replanting with both traditional varieties and some experimental vines, including Syrah and Rhone clones of Grenache and Mouvedre." -Importer

This also scored 88 points in the Wine Spectator and 87 points in the Wine Enthusiast.
