Description:
2006 PATRICK LESEC BARGETON CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE:
"The deep plum/ruby-tinged 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Bargeton (80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre) was aged in 1- to 3-year-old small barrels. The most structured, dense, and tannic of these Chateauneufs, it begs for 2-4 years of bottle age. Aromas of charcoal, roasted meats, grilled Provencal herbs, black currants, and cherries are followed by a deep, chewy, thick, well-structured, muscular wine. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030."
"Patrick Lesec's negociant operation is artisinal in nature, small, well-focused, and consistently reliable. The high point of the portfolio is unquestionably his Chateauneuf du Papes. Yet the low level wines are also worth checking out. Lesec's 2006 Chateauneuf du Papes are all successful." -91 points Robert Parker
"Dark red. Pungent raspberry and dried floral aromas, with a suave spice character building with air. Deep, sweet and round, with fleshy red berry flavors and impressive finishing grip. Seriously structured but with no hardness or edges." 91-93 points- Josh Raynolds- International Wine Cellar
WINE:
"This wine comes from 20-90 year old vines and is sourced from La Crau. The soils are clay-limestone soil with pebbles. The grapes are harvested by hand and the yields are 20-30 hectoliters per hectare. This spends 18-25 days macerating and is aged in small older oak barrels." -Importer
WINERY:
"Patrick Lesec established his negociant firm in 1993. Having found that customers in his restaurant in California were frequently disappointed with French wines, he began to seek out his own sources of supply, mostly from the Rhone Valley...Patrick Lesec Selections includes eight different estate-bottled red wines from Chateauneuf du Pape. Patrick works closely with 'non-interventionist' producers under contract to make top quality wines."
"Some of the vineyards are located in the lieux-dits La Crau, Valori, Le Cristia...and Palestor. All of these wines have a high content of old Grenache...and are treated with as little sulfur as possible. They are neither fined nor filtered." -Harry Karis, The Chateauneuf du Pape Wine Book
2007 VAYNIAC NAPA CABERNET SAUVIGNON:
"Vayniac Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 is the first-ever truly community-made wine. Sourced from premium Napa fruit, its realization in the bottle stands as testament to the passion and hard work of wine lovers worldwide who contributed to this project over a period of 2 years."
"Everything about the wine, right down to this label, was community driven. Some chimed in with input from afar, others got dirty working the crush, and a select few were able to participate in the final blending. We're proud of this wine and all that it embodies: Family, togetherness, even a little rebelliousness. In addition, it's flat out delicious!"
"The Final Blend: 83% Cabernet Sauvignon from Suscol Bench (24.9%), Young Inglewood (24.9%), Godspeed (16.6%), and Carrefour (16.6%) Vineyards. 10% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc."
