"There is an extra bit of ripeness here, and it serves both to deepen the wine and also to add a slight bit of weightiness to it. Smells of fresh crushed apples, fully ripened pears and creamy oak jump from the glass, and those same attractions feature in the plump and outgoing flavors as well. At the finish, the wine does bring touches of heat and coarseness into play, but they are small bits of bother in a quite stunning effort." -Connoisseurs Guide to Wine |

"Burgundian in style, this is firm, with toasty, buttery oak joining ripe apple and pear flavors. The oak gives this a spicy nutmeg scent. Ends on an elegant note, picking up a hint of marshmallow. Drink now through 2012. 186 cases made." -90 points Wine Spectator
"After graduating from the University of California at Davis in 1987, Bill Hunter spent time working at Rombauer Winery in St. Helena and Bonny Doon Winery in Santa Cruz. In 1989 he began making wine for Chauffe-Eau Cellars in Geyserville. After getting some experience, he wanted to be able to express his own style. So in 1994, he began making his own wine on the side. He made two barrels of Dutton Chardonnay from the original shop block and a barrel of Carneros Pinot Noir. Unfortunately, someone had already registered the brand 'Hunter', so he opted to use the brand name 'Chasseur', French for Hunter."
"The Durell 'Sand Hill' Vineyard is owned by William Price, and farmed by Steve Hill, and is located in the Southern Sonoma Valley on the eastern edge of the Sonoma Coast appellation. The breezy hillside elevation and the cool San Pablo Bay influences create a late ripening microclimate. The vineyard was planted in 1997 to a Wente selection from the Hyde ranch via Kistler's Sand Hill block. The notes of this wine are citric with flinty, wet stone characteristics." -Winery
