"Round and juicy, this is a bit compact for now, but the core of blanched almond, papaya, pear and Jonagold apple is waiting in reserve. The long, juicy finish delivers another wave of fruit with buried minerality. Best from 2009 through 2015. 605 cases made." -Wine Spectator
"Bright yellow. Tightly wound nose slowly unfolds to offer zesty citrus pith and mineral nuances, along with a gentle floral quality. Racy lemon and green apple flavors show good depth and excellent finishing lift. I love this emphatically brisk, nervy style of Condrieu." -91 points- Josh Raynolds- International Wine Cellar
This wine also received a median of 92 points on Cellar Tracker. See the reviews here: http://www.cellartracker.com//wine.asp?iWine=420840
100% Viognier. Condrieu is from the French word "coin de ruisseau" meaning corner of the brook.
Le Grand Vallon Vineyard is planted on the coveted granitic soils of the AOC. Francois likes a little botrytis whenever possible to add balance and richness to his wines. There was less than 10% botrytis in 2006. He raises this particular cuvee in 30% new French oak. The rest of the wine goes in older barrels.
Condrieu became an AOC in 1940. There are only roughly 130 hectares of vineyards planted here with yields averaging 35-37 hectoliters per hectare, so there's very little wine produced.

Discussion On Tonight’s Wine

Celler Del Roure Maduresa 2004
Cgatesman – I know it better than you might imagine…Having said that, the Devils still really do suck…
Chelios, you may not know it, but that was a compliment from NY Pete.
People, get a life. This is a business that sells wine. How in the world have some of you gotten so wrapped up in this Cinderella marketing strategy?
I’ll see if I can get Chelios a life beyond his pointless postings
Hey Cindy…how about a futures offer on the 2007 Vayniac cab…for about $24.98…
Cindy, how about a good deal on Ch. La Clémence 05…hmm, somewhere in the $55-$60 range would be phenomenal.
Well, Danbury, you are entitled to your standards but they seem rather particular to me. To me, a wine can be sexy without being (as you put it) a “pleasure bomb.” And I think you are exaggerating both the tone and content of the reviews. That said, it may be that our tastes for wine in general or Condrieu in particular simply differ: I tend to be turned off by women who offer no intellectual interest, too.
Frankly, the reason I bought this wine was not the reviews — I don’t know who the reviewer was for WS and I don’t read IWC enough to know if my tastes would correlate with Josh R.’s on this type of wine. I really enjoy good Condrieu, I have heard impressive things about this producer, I’ve never tried his wines, and this seemed like too good a price to pass up to try one.
And while I wouldn’t object to one of the marsanne/roussanne wines either, I do think you’re being a bit unrealistic in thinking about the Beaucastel or an Hermitage blanc for this kind of distribution. If people are up in arms about a $45 Condrieu, what are they going to say about an $80-100 WHITE Hermitage or CdP?
Mr. Chelios,
“What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
(Billy Madison)
JJ: I’m happy with it, I won’t ruin the surprise though.
Adam — You can say whatever you want about Chelios. But be careful when you make fun of a Faber College education.
Great job Cindy!! I am glad to see even with all of the complaining that you may sell this one out.
I love whites, give us another white tonight!!
Edward: is the thanksgiving pack great??? I can’t wait, I hate living in california haha
That’s not nice Pete…and may I add that the Devils suck …
Received my Ridge (CW) today as well as my Thanksgiving secret pack (WLTV). Looking forward to the next offering of CW. Keep up the good work WL staff.
Someone has never watched Animal House.
P.S. I like Cinderellawine.com ! So does my credit card!
Shouldn’t that be CaD
chelios is a douche…
Chelios: Boy, i must have gone to a crummy school growing up… i always thought it was the Japanese that bombed pearl harbor. Public education, go figure. Pretty funny post though.
Doug: Glad to hear you’ve received your Ridge.. that means mine is on its way!
Thanks Coup: I’ll check out the WLTV forums like you recommended….
ben – Chelios’ post was a pretty funny retort to the seriously insane whinging going on here.
I do believe that all these demanding people are only vocal because of the anonymity of this area. If we were all physically at a store, I somehow can’t see someone being so ridiculous. They offer what they have or can get … its not like your favourite wine just appears at their store. They have to get it through suppliers and other channels too.
I am truly sorry for having offended anybody….I thought I was just summing up the previous comments but had not realized that some people by birthright, honestly and truly are entitled to be offered whatever wine they desire at pennies on the dollar…
It is my sincerest hope that sometime in 2010 Cinderella wines will merge with Priceline.com and offer a “Name your own price” feature where people can log on, select any wine that they desire, for example perhaps a 1982 Chateau Margaux, and then pay whatever they feel they want to pay – $12.18, heck $4.38 if they feel like it…I mean gosh darn it, I am entitled to extremely cheap wine and I’ll pay whatever I want for it…
It is my belief this new version of Cinderellawine.com will remove much of the profound disappointment in the wines and prices that have been offered here… and not force people to have to shop at the regular wine library or other massive disappointments…
Chelios – you’re obnoxious. although you probably know that because, based on your comment, somebody is sure to have told you that before.
Wow. I just received my Ridge Lytton Springs Zin that I ordered on Tuesday night from Cinderella Wine. Now that is customer service. This was my first order from Cinderella Wine and Wine Library and am very impressed. Not only did I receive the wine quickly I received an amazing price. Thanks!
and while you are at it…. I DEMAND, that’s right DEMAND that you only include wines that have a personal guarantee of Greatness from Robert Parker…I want RP 98 or higher wines and I want them at a price of less than $4.38 (Note: I might go as high as $5.12 or even $5.25 for a genuine RP 100 point wine, but it better have a good tasting note and fit my profile)…
Oh and when I say Parker I mean Parker and not Jay Miller… So don’t go trying to push off any Sierra Carche on me…
I am also DEMANDING, yes DEMANDING that you personally open every bottle of white wine that you try and offer in the future and insert some red food color as real men only drink red. I would like the bottle reCORK’D (please note the plug) and new foil put on it before shipped out.
Finally, I DEMAND, yes DEMAND, that you stop offering Random Wines that are just okay…Now I’m not really sure if it is the Randomness of the wines that I am incensed about or if it is the just okay part, so I’ll have to get back to you on that part, but I want the practice to end immediately…or I too will be forced to shop at Wine Library, and take recommendations from the likes of Julius, Ian or heavens forbid Kristen…
and don’t think this rant is over, because “Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! – And it ain’t over now. ‘Cause when the goin’ gets tough… the tough get goin’! Who’s with me? Let’s go! “
Condrieu is a very special appellation (AOC) in Northern Rhone. The only variety allowed to be grown is Viognier. Most any bottle from Condrieu is considered to be quite rare because of the relatively small output relative to demand, which is mostly due to Europeans’ knowledge about this amazing white.
Château Grillet is the other Northern Rhone appellation that grows only Viognier, which consists of about 6 1/2 acres. This AOC is considered a monopole (like DRC-DRC) and as you can imagine, produces some of the worlds finest and expensive Viognier.
I have experienced most of the producers from the Condrieu appellation (including this one) and have always been blown away and fascinated by these beauties. If you are even thinking about trying this, jump in, because you won’t be disappointed. This is an outstanding deal and is the very first time I have seen anyone substantially reduce the price on a Condrieu.
All the Best,
David classof1855.com
Brandon or Kristen, going forward can you please put the Wine Spectator score in an even bigger and bolder font in a more prominent place than at the very top of the column….Some of your ummm more mature site members are having difficulty finding it there
Hey adam, you should head over to the WLTV forums (of course hosted by Wine Library) for discussion of all things wine and some things not wine. They have perhaps the greatest forum moderators in the world over there (and one exceedingly lesser light)…

LurkerNoMore , great comment. People that are expecting to see Screaming Eagle appear on cindy for $25 just don’t understand how this works. We may see some big names but it will be things that have to be moved now, not something that is selling just fine at retail. We aren’t going to see any of the 95-100pt RP 2007 CdP’s appear on cindy, they are selling out just fine. Maybe in a year or two we will see what is left but not at this time.
Cindy, you rule, now tell me about December.
Amen LurkerNoMore.
Man…a lot of whining going on here. Danbury (among others) seems to think that CW owes him/her something! Keep in mind, this site is not here to put hard to find cult wines in your cellar at $25/bottle. It is here to provide a vehicle for the importers and distributors to clear out their massively backlogged inventories so they can make room for the next vintage, and do it in a quick and discrete manner that will not result in a publicly posted discount price for their product being available in the general market (which they know would erode their pricing power going forward). Translation…if a wine is in such demand that it is still selling out at full price in today’s economic environment, you most likely are not going to see it here…so don’t hold your breath.
The deals here are great. If you don’t see one for a week or two that fits your profile, you always have the option to find something else somewhere else that does. We should all be grateful that the folks at WL were smart enought to set up this distribution channel to allow us to be able to take advantage of the industry’s current troubles. Once the economy is back on its feet and people are splurging on wine again, the deals here are going to be much less interesting (in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if this site disappears all together).
Adam – Cellartracker has a forum and a diverse community of characters who discuss wine and wine related topics…and lively and wildly off topic discussions often ensue. http://www.cellartracker.com/forum
Seems we have a bunch of BLNs!!
Jayce, the 2006 vintage for white wines in the Northern Rhone was considered to be very good indeed. Having said this, I would always recommend you drink Condrieu within the first 3-5 years. The most important thing is for you to drink them when you think they are the most deliciously satisfying. Too often, people wait too long to drink their wines and then they wonder what happened….. they just simply waited too long.
This bottle of 2006 will truly satisfy you. I have drank the wine often. I would even recommend a quick decanting, it will benefit from some air as this is still a young wine.
Enjoy it!

Where do you guys go do discuss other wines than those sold on this site? I always want to get your opinions on wines on that ‘other’ site, but don’t want to bog down this blog with talk of non-cinderella offerings.
great wine! great choice! great price! way to go Brandon.
maybe next some of the italian whites that Gary is raving about?? not all wines want to or need to be red; try them you will like them.
