"Undeniably flashy, with clean, rich and fruity aromas that carry over to the palate, with layers of smoky fig, pear, apple and melon flavors that flow smooth and easy. Drink now through 2011. 2,000 cases made." -WS |
Description:
"We select our finest Chardonnay vineyard lots for our Reserve bottling, choosing components based on their flavor concentration and expression of varietal character. The 26 vintage comes from two outstanding vineyards Star and Rodgers in Napa Valley's Yountville and Rutherford appellations. These vineyards are planted to intensely flavored, small-berry Chardonnay clones, including the Chardonnay Musqué clone that enhances our Chardonnay's floral notes. Hand harvesting into half-ton bins and hand sorting at the winery ensured only the finest fruit was fermented."
"Mother Nature showed us her temperamental side in 2006, pounding us with heavy spring rain, making us sweat out a July heat wave and then graciously turning benevolent as she provided ideal conditions during harvest. Rainfall lasted unusually late into spring, raising the season's total to above 50 inches. June and July tallied slightly above-average temperatures, and then Napa Valley's famous cool morning fog returned in August and continued through harvest, allowing long hangtime for outstanding quality grapes."
"Rich and complex, our 2006 Reserve Chardonnay reveals lush aromas of ripe apple, pear, flowers, crème brûlée and toasty oak. The beautifully balanced flavors first mirror the fruity aromas, and then pick up yellow peach, light honey and hazelnut notes mid-palate. You'll find an intriguing clove note on the expansive, fruit-imbued finish. Pair our Reserve Chardonnay with rich and creamy first courses or entrées, like lobster bisque, smoked salmon crêpes or pasta with four cheeses."
At the winery, we gently pressed the grapes, allowed the juice to settle and then transferred the juice to small barrels for the primary fermentation. To round and soften the acidity, we allowed half of the wine to complete malolactic fermentation. We stirred the wine (batônnage) every three weeks to re-suspend the yeast lees and integrate flavors. More than a year of sur lie aging in oak barrels enhanced this wine's creamy texture and long finish, while contributing hints of oak spice." -Winery
