91 Pts Antonio Galloni - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Made from a vineyard in the town of Barolo, the 2001 Barolo Paiagallo Vigna La Villa is the most accessible of the house’s wines. A saturated ruby, it offers a nose of new oak, spices and very sweet fruit along with generous amounts of ripe dark fruit and cocoa, closing with excellent persistence and a gorgeous, lingering finish. It shows wonderful balance and harmony. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016." -Wine Advocate

"The soil type is calcareous with sand and clay, at an elevation of 320-370 m. The average yield is 45hl/hectare and there's a 20-30 day maceration. This wine spends 1 year in an Allier oak barrique, 1 year in medium oak casks, and 1 year in the bottle."

"Ruby red color with garnet highlights. It fills the nose with overtones of cherries, blackberries, plums, cinnamon, cloves and black pepper. In the mouth, soft and sweet tannins merge with a strong show of fruit. The acidity is nicely balanced with the tannins, giving the wine a sense of freshness that prolongs the finish." -Importer
