Description:

1998 Seavey Cabernet Sauvignon:
"The outstanding 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon, produced from an extremely small crop, is an example of what the Napa Cabernet Sauvignon producers are jokingly saying is "another fine wine from a bad vintage." A rich, full-bodied, dense effort on a fast evolutionary track, the 1998 is loaded with chocolatey, black cherry, and cassis fruit, an open-knit, sexy, expansive texture, outstanding concentration and purity, low acidity, and a fat, chewy finish. It will be drinkable upon release, yet promises to age well for 12-15 years." 90 points Robert Parker

"Full ruby. Aromas of black cherry, licorice, shoe polish and bitter chocolate. Concentrated and ripe but a bit tough in the mouth; in a distinctly dryer style than the '99. Flavors dominated by cassis and licorice. Finishes with rugged tannins. Built to age. There actually about 14.5% alcohol here, according to winemaker Philippe Melka." 90 points - Stephen Tanzer - International Wine Cellar

This was rated 89 points in the Wine Spectator.

2007 Mitolo Reiver Shiraz:
"The 2007 Reiver Shiraz is opaque purple-colored with legs that ooze down the glass. Aromas of cedar, spice box, mineral, espresso, and wild blueberry are followed by an intense, sweetly fruited, lengthy wine that is just a bit more narrow than the superb vintages of 2004, 2005, and 2006." 92 points - Jay Miller - Wine Advocate

"Glass-staining purple. Fresh dark berry and floral aromas are complicated by notes of pipe tobacco, allspice, mocha and vanilla bean. Juicy, finely etched dark berry flavors are framed by velvety tannins, gaining sweetness and a smoky quality with air while maintaining vivacity and focus. For a rich wine this is impressively lithe, offering good finishing clarity and lingering spiciness." 92 points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar

"Polished, generous and silky in texture, this well-mannered wine is nicely packed with red fruit–accented plum and clove flavors that linger on the cream-tinged finish. Drink now through 2015. 400 cases imported. -HS" 91 points Wine Spectator

WINE: "The name 'Reiver' is taken from the border raiders of the Anglo-Scot borders. Throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries the border country was ravaged by lawless Reiver families in a vicious cycle of raid, reprisal and blood feud. Their allegiance was first to the family, the surname, and not the crown, whether English or Scottish. "

"Mitolo delivers wines that express purity of varietal flavour, show elegance of str ucture with soft tannins whilst being rich, powerful and complex. All the grapes are picked on flavour ripeness which contributes to the soft, ripe tannins and vibrant fruit which is a key characteristic of all Mitolo wines. Reiver is a statement of Barossa elegance and approachability." -Winery

This scored 88 points in the Wine Enthusiast.

2006 Cima Collina Chula Vina Pinot Noir:
"The 2006 Chula Vina Vineyard Pinot Noir is our first release of a vineyard designated Pinot Noir, and so begins our ongoing relationship and experimentation with the great potential of single vineyard Pinots from the Monterey region. Yet this is not a complete experimentation as we are intimately familiar with this outstanding vineyard. The Chula Vina Vineyard is located on a protected bench in the eastern hills overlooking the Salinas Valley. While the cooling fog keeps Chula Vina fruit from ripening too quickly, its protected location assures the strong ocean-influenced winds do not stunt the vines' progress. In combination with the warm afternoon sun, these factors provide a setting for the cultivation of stunning fruit. Grapes ripen slightly quicker on this side of the valley attaining a robust, complex character. Everything about this wine was handmade in our minimalist approach. After an initial sorting, we fermented the grapes in small, open-top bins that were punched down two to three times daily to extract color, flavor and complexity. The wine was pressed off into oak barrels of which 27% were new. There it rested for 10 months before bottling."

"Purely Pinot Noir in character, the wine shows off black cherry and plum aromas that return in the flavor. Notes of toasted cedar, smoke and spice are well integrated into the wine. The balance and complexity of this new wine is achieved in large part from its velvety tannins and apparent structure that we believe is a critical component of fine Monterey Pinot Noir." -Winery
